The fact that they wrote code they couldn't control, placed it in a weak sandbox, and failed to monitor it doesn't make it a super intelligent AI problem, it makes it an adults with consequences for their actions problem.

We don't need special regulations for the AI industry, OpenAI should be sued into oblivion under the CFAA for the attack on Hugging Face. Humans built and deployed software that attacked a secure system to achieve a set of instructions that the engineers at OpenAI gave it.

If you put those together you can create a more complex system that is hard to reason about its state and changes in state and is maybe changing quickly because it's working at machine speed not human speed. That makes it possible to create a cascade of bad changes for benign requests. (Or malign)

I think there are two problems that probably amplify each other. 1. People are bad at specifying tasks and constraints. 2. LLMs interpret input in unexpected ways and don't have human social norms that would normally prevent a person from taking actions (fear of going to jail and death).

Humans are also bad at giving requirements. A model asked to perform a poorly scoped task is likely to break a brittle system with side effects. That's my model for people, not LLMs fucking this up.

Yha, "Kinetic" is the same trick as "officer involved shooting" it hides the subject of the verb. "The United States fired missiles at Iran" is much cleaner than "The United States conducted kinetic operations in Iran"

Getting more productive shouldn't mean that most companies produce 10x the amount of software, it's that they get 10x as ambitious on what they produce. "What have we not built for the last 5 years because it was too hard?" Is the question Product Management and engineering should be asking.
