Dear tv and radio producers. Thankyou for the invitation. But, no, I do not want to appear on your show to defend the idea that I am English, after 50 years of living and working here, because the increasingly feral right want to turn this into a "debate" and you cannot see how you're being played

Today's Modculture film club instalment. Almost 60 years since it first appeared on the big screen, Fahrenheit 451 is perhaps more relevant today than at any other time in its history. And it's a great looking movie too. bit.ly/4AYsaB0

Anonymous sources are bad, says an anonymous source.
Greens do 'things differently', says source over former deputy's criticism
A Green Party source has responded to earlier comments from Caroline Lucas on the party's motion at its conference over the weekend.
They say: "There are ups and downs in politics and when people are passionate they disagree in the heat of a campaign."
The source adds: "We do things differently, unlike Labour who use anonymous sources and resort to factionalism."

The modern world in old Ladybird books. ‘The Sports Reporter’ The Story of Newspapers (1969) Artist: Ron Embleton
During a traditional cricket game on an English town cricket ground, a sports reporter in velvet jacket and casual trousers writes in a small notebook. He is standing next to a mother in a deck chair with a child and a picnic.

Everyone, stop what you are doing. I've discovered there is a politician called Teresa May running for city council in British Columbia. And this is from one of her campaign videos. Never have two people with the same name had such different vibes.

Worrying scenes in the Channel today, for all interested in asylum policy and maritime tactics. A small boat from Normandy spent more than 30 hours at sea. Those on board now on their 2nd rescue vessel as Border Force forced to play cat and mouse with far-right activists who have their own boat.

Amazing - the Pink Panther theme was nailed in two takes. (From NYT obit of saxophonist Plas Johnson.)
The recording session took place at 8 a.m. on a cold winter's day. "We only did two takes, I think," Mr. Johnson told The Modesto Bee in 2007. "When we finished, everyone applauded, even the string players. And that's saying something."
He added, "They never applaud for anything.
