Not only should we introduce penalties and fines for the companies that break important things by designing crappy software, we should introduce regulations and penalties for the media outlets that act as accomplices by shifting responsibility away from the companies that cause these failures

The problem with education is that it's a solved problem. Students need small classes, individual attention, lots of writing, lots of feedback, access to a well-stocked library, time to think, and time to talk with their peers. We just don't like the answer, so we keep trying to do other stuff.

More than any higher ed development in recent memory, institutional subsidies for AI at R1 universities prove that austerity is a choice. It is not “too expensive” to invest in a humanities research infrastructure; rather, it is a choice that R1 universities make not to & subsidize AI instead.

I have to write down agendas of meetings I take and with whom while traveling for work. Even though it’s per diem when international. A non-academic then spends time deciding whether or not I was engaging in academic work while traveling for work. I bet if we cost it out, per diem costs less.

This is just preliminary data (final numbers will be released at 4 pm), but the '60 Minutes' premiere averaged 7.7 million viewers and 1.5 mill in the 25-54 demo, down 19% and 33%, respectively, compared to last season's debut. This marks the lowest-rated premiere this century, if the numbers hold.
