It’s interesting to be a vegan/vegetarian and a writer because despite its centrality to my own world view, and the way it touches ever minute aspect of my own life, I can only incorporate it in limited or indirect ways into my work lest it be perceived as preachy, hostile or worse…unserious.

I’m no stranger to debilitating depression and mental illness, but I realised that the way I’ve been feeling lately feels less like depression and more like grief. The world feels like it’s gotten the terminal diagnosis. And like a terminal diagnosis, you don’t give up, but you do have to grieve.

they did the research in the first place because they believed you and wanted to tell people about it. they are not our enemies.
