some personal news: I finally had enough money to buy myself a Switch 2! This has been a long time coming, and the first game I'm playing on it is Kirby Star Allies, a game which I've been avoiding spoilers for 8 YEARS just so I can play it blind

Formula E's new logo is imo one of the better rebrands in recent times. It's cool, futuristic and also perfectly fits with the move to the new, much faster GEN 4 cars next season

When people realize that it is possible for them to just use one account to use all of their apps for notes, projects, docs, etc., and to own all of that data in one place, and to migrate all of it to another provider at any time, they won't want to sign up for another cloud service ever again

nokanol45 @nokanol45.bsky.social · 22/08/2026
I honestly believe this use case will be much, much more important than the social use cases we've so far seen atproto is capable of. People tolerate using centralized social accounts, but they absolutely hate having to use cloud services for their productivity apps

One interesting use case for Atproto Spaces is as a universal app syncing backend. Concrete consequences: - Devs don’t need to build a custom cloud backend. - No need to rely on a third-party, often US-based. - Syncing can happen between platforms and OSes seamlessly. - Apps can share data!

if it helps, it's good to remind ourselves that bluesky and atproto as a concept have only existed for a mere 3 years, meanwhile the giants currently holding all the network effects had decades to build them up. As @quillmatiq.com said, it's a long game bsky.app/profile/quil...

Kinda miss that Twitter feature that would tell you which app a post was made from. Seems apt in this very fractured ecosystem called ATproto

Threads accounts for approximately 22% of inbound traffic to some of my projects. Something like 20% of global traffic on Threads is from Taiwan (where I live). Meta has a lock on Taiwanese social media.

one silver lining I can see from this is that Threads demonstrate that interoperation between social apps absolutely works - it's precisely the fact that Meta integrates Threads into all of its apps and streamlining the login process for its users that Threads managed to get this big this quickly

One thing to note here is that this is basically the same argument as "you should stop using twitter because Elon bad", which infamously isn't effective at converting users anymore since November 2024 as @laurenshof.online pointed out last year! connectedplaces.online/growth-narra...

The narratives that networks like the fediverse and Bluesky have about themselves how their network grows are a snapshot of a specific moments in time. How do these narratives evolve as the circumstances change again?

Threads is big here for the simple reason that Meta has a chokehold on the social media landscape here (as well as other places like Taiwan). All people use here are Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram and now Threads.

I'm gonna buck the trend here and say most of the cultural impact is outside of the anglosphere where you can't see it. In Hong Kong for example I see threads posts referenced all the time on news outlets, and often shows up on google searches when I search for local topics.

why not have both? "use your internet handle to log into your atmosphere account" in my mind they are two different things: internet handle = @<URL here> atmosphere account = the account-shaped thing you use to interact with the atmosphere
