i dropped out of college 3 separate times, first for linguistics, second undeclared, third for community college's knockoff comp sci. i might have stuck to it the third time but i got hired to write software and struggled to balance classes and work.

i think the issue here is the lack of a monoculture. i don't listen to the radio, i don't watch tv, when i shop/work out in public i listen to podcasts or music on headphones, i haven't been to the movies in 4 months, i only listen to music i choose. i know i'm weird but like, when would i hear it?

one time i had an interview with the whole engineering department over breakfast at a nearby diner. i asked to finish someone's pancakes towards the end. i got the job and still see those folks regularly 7 years later, well after we've all moved on to different jobs.
