Thank you, anonymous writer in @thebookseller.com today. As a lawyer, I find it mind-boggling that there’s supposedly no way of holding publishers accountable when they renege on things they agreed to do. We deserve honesty even if information is hard to give. www.thebookseller.com/comment/who-...

I keep thinking about how I had to call the Anthropic settlement line for help when their terrible site kept borking and I also said, "Hey your database is also all wrong." And they said, "Yeah, we know." And I said all of this should have been built better and they said, "Coding is hard."

My other half, begging me to stop referring to the players by their snookerhero names, claims that this is why I’ve not yet been invited to commentate. I think it’s just because they don’t know I’m available.

BTW you should all watch this it's fucking delightful. Really fun but for some reason people don't talk about it like they do about the chicken ones. It's hilarious, it has a spectacular version of a deranged Queen Victoria, Brendan Gleeson as a Dublin pirate, and Hugh Grant shoulda got an Oscar

God yes. Publishing has increasingly shifted promotion onto authors themselves via social media. There is no real-world back-up for most of us. Tube ads are for the very privileged few.

My second novel is officially out! MURDER LIKE CLOCKWORK is the second book in the Marchfield Square series. It’s a locked room mystery in which Audrey and Lewis try to discover how a dead body can vanish from an empty house. When it comes to solving a murder, it’s all in the timing… 🕰

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

I think a lot of people who don't often write (or who just don't care) understand how easy it is to spot "AI" text once you've been exposed to it. It's gotten to the point that I can look at a piece of "AI" writing and tell if it was written by ChatGPT or some other LLM. They have "house styles."

People of London! PLEASE SHARE. I lost my necklace last night (10th Nov), and I'm hoping someone has found it. I caught the Northern Line from High Barnet to Leicester Square, then walked to the Prince Charles Cinema, then the same back again. I only noticed it was gone when I got home.

I think it’s important to talk about how being a mother can affect your writing time, though. In my case I can say I had a very supportive and self employed husband who did a lot, but I still wrote most of my early books between 11pm and 1am when no one would interrupt me.

Reading is food for your mind. Like food, different reading choices serve different purposes. Some books are read for pleasure; some to satisfy a need. Some are like junk food; great as long as that's not all you eat. Some help to counter an imbalance in knowledge or experience. Variety is the key.
