Geeky about books, film, & musicals. There’s always a song in my head. Delighted by: Judy Garland, Emma Thompson, Stephen Sondheim, David Tennant, Terry Pratchett, Jinkx Monsoon. BE KIND, or at least don't be a dick. Saffer in UK 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️-adjacent, she/her

Graham Norton is having Ellen DeGeneres AND Quentin Tarantino on his show next week? YIKES. Especially Tarantino. Definitely won’t be watching that, which is a shame since it’s my favourite talk show and there are so few episodes per year. #grahamnortonshow

I’m predicting it now: Tabby and Mark are making the final. #strictly (I actually thought this last week, too, but I had to watch a day late so I didn’t post about it).

Just saw a discussion about whether it’s “okay” to use GenAI images to advertise your work. And TBF most of the small business owners involved were against it, but they were all participating like it was a legit question?? Like in what world would that EVER be okay? It’s false advertising!

Oh that was actually heartbreaking. No one deserved to go home yet, because even the lowest scorers weren’t terrible. Usually there are s couple of duds to get going with. And poor Amy. Last year she was collateral damage because of the MAGA, and it’s so sad to be eliminated first again. #strictly

Catching up on last night’s #strictly, and I’m very confused why the Mary Poppins dance is using the stage musical lyrics instead of the film lyrics for Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. It’s movie week; why wouldn’t you use the lyrics everyone knows from the film? 🤔

At a the Purple Palace (premier inn) for the next two nights, skipping through the tv channels to see what they have, and they have 🤢GB news🤢. I’ve never even SEEN GB news on a tv before. I feel violated. 🤮

Some of you have forgotten that only three years ago you were perfectly capable of writing an essay, writing a eulogy, telling a bedtime story to a child, and it should worry you that powerful companies have convinced us we can’t do things we’ve been doing for 5,000 years.

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

Had to leave the house absurdly early this morning, but my musicals playlist chose to start with Good Morning Baltimore, which might be the best thing to listen to while walking to the station.

Pleased to report that The Love Hypothesis film is really cute and I got proper romcom feelings from it! This never happens anymore (all the best romcoms were made in the 90s/2000s), so I’m actually delighted. ❤️❤️

Tim Curry and Dolly Parton have taught us not only that you should be bigger, weirder, gayer, and freakier, but also that those qualities are what people will love about you. The things that make you strange and amazing are the things that will resonate with other strange and amazing people

Just saw someone post a spoiler for a reality competition show, and preface it with, "Sorry if you haven't watched it yet, but [name] won!" And I just think that's the weirdest thing to do - why apologise for posting a spoiler and still post it? You obv realise maybe people won't want it spoiled!

Oh phooey, the next 3 episodes of #Ludwig only come out on the 10th of Sept? I thought for sure we'd have at least one this week. Not that I'm not grateful for the opportunity to binge 3 at once, but releasing 3, then pausing for 3 weeks, and then the next 3, seems like a strange decision.
