But we know more than enough to say this: We, the people of NYC refuse to accept authoritarianism at our doorsteps. We will always defend the humanity of our immigrant neighbors. ICE's operations in New York City — and everywhere else — must come to a permanent end. #AbolishICE #ICEOutNow

In NY, about once each decade since 2000 the Left has through superior organization won much more governing power than our actual numbers reflect at the time—and we've defended most of the seats we've gained. One of governing power's qualities is that it gives Overton-window shifts more durability.

There's no forgiving this. No living it down. It's a stain on our humanity. When all this is over, the monsters who did this should be pariahs. And the soulless thugs who cheered it on while dehumanizing Haitian immigrants should be reminded of what they did every day of their lives.

The rent is too damn high for small businesses throughout most of NYC. We need rent control, for small businesses and also most nonprofit orgs. The Small Business Rent Stabilization Act, sponsored by @emilyassembly.bsky.social and @juliasalazar.bsky.social, should be law. For bill info, see below.🔻
Screenshot of a map from the NYC Comptroller's report "Who’s Minding the Storefronts? An Analysis of Storefront Vacancies in New York City," released today (Jun 04, 2026).

The map shows the commercial / storefront vacancy rate throughout New York City, Census Neighborhood Tabulation Area, for the 1st quarter of 2026. To show the rates, the map uses a color scale, with the color white representing 0%, then yellow (5%), orange (10%), red (15%), and finally black (20%).

The highest vacancy rates (shown in black) are concentrated in these neighborhoods: Financial District–Battery Park City (21.1%), Old Astoria–Hallets Point (20.1%), Ocean Hill (19.5%), Tribeca–Civic Center (19.5%), East New York (North) (19.4%).

That said, vacancy rates are high throughout much of the city, with nearly half of Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens in orange, red, or black.

Last night, Israeli forces intercepted and boarded a humanitarian aid flotilla bound for Gaza in international waters off the coast of Greece — unlawfully detaining more than 175 people, including several New Yorkers.

My team has been in direct contact with State and Federal partners as we work to confirm the whereabouts and conditions of these New Yorkers.

This is a brazen violation of international law.
