It was an odd build-up over the year or so that led to the reunification. I happened to be in East Germany on the day that Honecker resigned, almost a year before. Strange, uncharted and interesting times!

The value of the UK Court interpreting market in 2025? £42 million, apparently. But I wonder how much of that actually reaches the pay packets of the skilled interpreters who provide the service in the courts? How much goes to intermediary organisations? #XL8 @iti-uk.bsky.social

So, according to this Parliamentary question: "The total spend by the Ministry of Justice on interpreters and related translation services during the 2025 calendar year was £41,945,961.34." I have a simple question: How much of that £42 million ended up being paid to the actual interpreters?

"The principality of Piddington", eh? I wonder if the fine, upstanding people of this racist little village realise that a principality is actually a state ruled by a prince? The Prince of Piddington, perhaps? I suspect the best they can rustle up is a few Counts.

Five people climb a gantry in the name of Just Stop Oil and the police shut the motorway, arrest the protesters and imprison them for up to 5 years. Hundreds of people block one of UK's busiest ports in the name of Stop the Boats, and the police do nothing and no-one is arrested. Really? Sigh.
