It's the declaration of the rights of Indigenous peoples. If a politician is attacking it they're a white supremacist who offer their voters nothing beyond racism and journalists should treat it as such

Just gonna say it: "open debate" is a format that privileges combative men conditioned to assert and take space from others. And it does nothing to help inform voters.

No increased cost to drivers leaves us with a likely sales tax as the funding source.

Great response in this thread from Victoria on cyclists using pedestrian signals. While technically wrong, other municipalities like Vancouver have designed bike crossings at major roads to use the pedestrian signal, instead of a bike specific light (or a regular traffic light)

Every day I walk past apartments prominently taller than their neighbours without second thought, but others are incensed by them. I've been thinking about the experience as a pedestrian versus as a driver, and I found myself near The Raven as an illustrative example.
A photo taken on the south sidewalk of West Broadway & Dunbar, where a street tree in the process of dropping its autumn leaves obscures the 14 storey Raven apartments from view.A photo taken from the middle of the street. The 14 Storey Raven apartment's upper half is visible above the neighbouring low rise buildings.A photo from the north sidewalk of West Broadway, where only the top storey and rooftop of the 14 storey Raven are visible above the closer 4 storey building.

Cheap housing in cities is the biggest long term threat to conservative governments and the UCP appears to have realized that. Interested to see how Edmonton responds

"The federal government said it will also work with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) to provide low-interest financing for apartment building owners to retrofit more than 280,000 homes over the next eight years."

This is going to be an amazing benefit for so many people! I'm personally most excited about the CMHC financing for rental buildings, which will substantially extend purpose-built rental building lifespans

This also completely ignores the fact that a big reason that TransLink needs a new funding model is that the transit gas tax has gone down substantially because of the adoption of hybrids and EVs.

The complete disregard for urban left voters by the NDP is expected and disappointing. Once again the failure of governments to build more housing in supposedly urban places has left the parties to fight over suburban voters who can only be bought by inefficient gas subsidies

There are a ton of benefits to internet-ifying the electricity grid. If nodes of different sizes can communicate with each other it can dramatically reduce the need for designing the grid for peak capacity. This wasn't an option previously, but now batteries can create buffers

This is my neighbourhood & this reporting is lousy - as are the people leading these efforts. The traffic calming here was well-advertised, involved extensive consultation, and does not barricade anyone in their own neighbourhood. It has made the area much safer for people walking and rolling. 1/

Mobi + Transit is often the fastest option! I live 20min walk away from the Canada line, and taking a Mobi shortens a trip downtown from 30 min to 15 min

As I understand it, this is capacity, not actual output. China is still consistently building coal plants, but primarily as backup power. Most of the time this 'coal capacity' isn't actually used
