When you've run with a nonsense story for a week and it becomes completely untenable, you have only two options. Double down with a convoluted meta conspiracy theory, or perform a brazen reverse ferret and pretend you never thought otherwise. Fox chose option A.

Bach, of course, triumphs.... OR DOES HE???? Back in the future, a rebel human organist makes a horrific discovery. It was there in plain sight, a taunt from the past. One of Bach's greatest pieces is called AIr on the G String. The robot one. The Bach we know and love? THAT WAS THE AI. The end

Shenanigans ensue. In the climactic scene, Bach and the DECOMPOSER battle it out for the favour of Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Köthen, each creating more and more beautiful music.

Movie synopsis 1/x AI on the G String It's Amadeus meets Terminator. In the near future, AI has taken over all the creative arts. But the rebellion is growing, fuelled by one glimmer of hope. No AI can reproduce Bach. It's just beyond them. There's something ineffable there.

Personally find AI pretty useful but… I think I’d be perfectly happy if we just turned it all off and got on with our lives? Like, there would be absolutely no bad consequences from doing that? I realise it is not going to happen.

I'm taking my "Norway's wealth tax didn't reduce tax revenue" victory lap.
Whether imposing higher taxes on business owners adversely affects business activity by constraining investment and inducing capitalist flight is a central question in the ongoing debate on how to tax the ultra wealthy. To shed new light, I exploit a series of related Norwegian reforms during 2021–2024 that increased dividend tax rates, removed migration-related capital gains tax loopholes, and nearly doubled the effective marginal tax rate on business wealth. These reforms spurred international debate and, allegedly, an “exodus” of Norwegian billionaires (Financial Times, 2023). While I document clear effects on migration, these responses are concentrated among the top 0.1% of the wealth distribution and mostly confined to 2022 and 2023. My results indicate that at most 100 individuals left due to the reforms. I find no evidence of significant outmigration or reduced inflows of startup founders or inventors. I estimate that absent any outmigration, wealth tax revenues would have increased by 75% from 2021 to 2024. Reform-driven outmigration lowers the revenue gain to 71.5%. My findings further show that outmigrating owners’ firms remain economically active and do not reduce investment. In a broader set of analyses, I examine whether business outcomes are affected, regardless of whether owners outmigrate, since firms may reduce investment both due to liquidity constraints or distortions to owners’ savings decisions. I compare firms owned by Norwegian individuals subject to the wealth tax with firms owned by foreigners and other tax-exempt entities. By merging historical ownership data from Orbis with the Norwegian shareholder register, I perform these analyses on both Norwegian and foreign-domiciled firms. Across settings, I find no evidence that Norwegian-owned firms pay out more dividends or invest less after the reforms, nor is there any evidence that the reform induced more bankruptcies. ...

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

Shame though, that's a lovely old bridge. Surely a handful of freight trains, and four Melb-Sydney passenger trains a day would be easy enough to shuttle over the bridge in between the airport runs?

This has caused a century and a half of railway planning headaches. The current theory seems to be that, rather than duplicating track, it's smarter/cheaper to order trains with smart axles that adjust for both tracks. networkrailconsulting.com/media/innova...

The reason Victoria's rail gauges are so fucked is because an Irish engineer persuaded Sydney to build its original lines using the Irish Broad instead of English/Standard gauge, then his successor a Scotsman reversed that decision but Victoria and South Australia had already ordered their trains!
