In American Philosophical Quarterly Vol. 63, No. 3, @nicemm.bsky.social argues that moral principles are best understood as being those explanatory generalizations that display the greatest invariance. scholarlypublishingcollective.org/uip/apq/arti...

Everyone on X and elsewhere who called for a violent response should be charged with incitement. Everyone involved in the pogrom should be locked up with exemplary sentences. Govt should make it clear that will be the response in future anywhere else. Enough.

Hot off the press, my latest article wades into the quagmire that is debate between generalists/particularists about moral principles. I defend a novel(ish) position which I call "moral invariantism". I'm told it'll be open-access for the next three months at the link below.

Moral Invariantism
Abstract. Traditional debate concerning the existence of moral principles has been dominated by two opposing positions. Moral generalists maintain that moral principles, characterized as exceptionless...

obviously today is a huge embarrassment for Matt Goodwin and for Reform, which is something that we absolutely ought to celebrate, but we must also remember it's a huge embarrassment for Morgan McSweeney and Maurice Glasman and all the Blue Labour weirdos, and that's important to celebrate too :)

Fantastic blog by my former colleague @alanlester.bsky.social forensically refuting the disgraceful attacks on the University of Sussex by the disgracefully ignorant Nigel Biggar. If you’re interested in protecting academic freedom please do read and share

Trump shenanigans contributing to Iceland decision to hold a referendum on joining the European Union. It will be the 11th non-EU country to apply to join. If this continues, Britain will be almost alone in Europe in being outside the EU, isolated, poorer and weaker.

A weirdly underappreciated problem about Inference to the Best Explanation is how it can handle uncertain evidence. This new paper, now forthcoming in Philosophy of Science, proposes a strategy for doing that (and argues that Einstein may have used it). #philsky #philsci doi.org/10.1017/psa....

The landscape in #Iceland is just endlessly beautiful 🥰
A hillside in south-east Iceland with low clouds clinging to the tops. There are brown scree slopes with some grasses in places, and more jagged and layered at the top. A deep gulley is seen on the right.
