Unlike the English, who end their domestic season in September, up here beyond the 64° north line, we are continuing into October. The Valhalla Cup (40 overs) final takes place on Saturday between Reykjavík Vikings and Vesturbær Volcano at Hamranesvöllur. Sunday is the reserve day.

We want everyone to have a good life with safe and easy access to watching and/or playing cricket. When we take over the United Nations or whatever body succeeds it, this will become principle number one and codified into international law.

We are about to have three ODIs going on simultaneously involving the so-called big three nations, none playing against each other. This could be the last day on Planet Earth that this ever happens outside of a World Cup, and even then it is unlikely.

The English cricket season ends this week. Not for us! We can confirm that the Valhalla Cup final will now take place on 3 October at Hamranesvöllur. As the legendary cricket pundit, Freddie Mercury, said, "the show must go on!" We are not scared by current conditions.

We have always believed that our cricketing future will be brighter than our past, because we wisely achieved nothing much in the past. That's how we got to the final of the 2026 Euro Cup in Warsaw.

It is is great to see one of the big three nations (India) taking on an associate (Japan). More of this should happen in T20I cricket, where the playing field is more even. Will India receive the samurai sword treatment or will Japan be turned into sushi?

The English language is complicated. Today, we heard the phrase: "After the Sri Lankan T20I & ODI series, the players will be seeking a rest." But someone else told us it was: "After the Sri Lankan T20I & ODI series, the players will be seeking arrest." You just never know!

What do Joe Root, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Sir Donald Bradman, Sir Jack Hobbs, and Sir Vivian Richards all have in common? Yes, it is true, not one of them has ever scored a run in Iceland. Our lava-based wickets remain the final frontier for batting excellence.

According to some experts, it takes around 10,000 hours of practice to master a skill. Our players are now well north of 100,000 hours and are still not quite there. We keep going. We will give it another ten years. If not, some of them are already good at fly fishing.

In June and July, we have 24 hour daylight. A five-day Test takes a maximum of 30 hours with no breaks. We should therefore play all Tests in Reykjavík. They will be done in a day. Fixture congestion solved. We could allow seven substitutes if players get tired or cause trouble.
