My 2026 re-re-read of Terry Pratchett's Watch books has reached the end of Night Watch. It's bloody good. I read them as an early teen and didn't realise at the time that Guards Guards! was about inviting fascism in. It reads quite differently when you can watch it happening.

Did he? I jumped on to that about two reboots ago (Tony's steam powered suit), and jumped back off quite quickly afterwards. I'm miffed that Kate Kildare was killed in X-Men and would be delighted to see somebody with a Becky Ryan poster or tour shirt, or a movie poster with Maggie as the star.

Editorially the whole thing was a mess because nobody had a clear idea of what the registration act actually did. However, it did give us Fraction/Kitson's The Order in the aftermath, which is a book that showed me something new with rereadings.

Issue 1 has different characters use the phrase "straw that broke the camel's back" twice in a span of about 4 pages. Even without the whole...Civil War-ness of it all, it is not well written. I like McNiven's art, but re-reading it I saw how many panels are framed with or filled by a lady's arse.

I had a quick read of the BBC's preview for traitors. "Julie Hesmondhalgh, will be known to audiences Up North especially as Roy Cropper's wife Hayley in the soap Coronation Street, between 1998 and 2014." This isn't false, but it is missing out a key part of why her character was a big deal.
