TfL are clearly not serious about helping people choose cheaper, more sustainable modes when it costs TWO AND A HALF TIMES as much to cross the river by bike on the Rotherhithe ferry as it does to drive through Blackwall or #SilvertownTunnel off-peak.

Construction at Water Lane is finally fully complete! The parallel pedestrian and cycle crossing is now on a raised table—so drivers will have to slow down, and will hopefully give way to pedestrians and cyclists (as they should.) A big improvement from the dangerous dogleg that was there before 👏
A diagonal parallel zebra and cycle crossing with priority over a road connecting pavements and cycle tracks on both sides. The crossing is on a raised table with chevrons indicating the changing gradient. It is flat for pedestrians and cyclists, but drivers have to navigate a speed hump. The pavements is made up of subtle colourful patterns of brick: buff, yellow, red, brown.

Disappointing that TfL, when renewing motoring infrastructure, are still doing less than the bare minimum for walking and cycling, the two cheapest modes of transport. See also: adding additional lanes to Bow Roundabout as part of Silvertown Tunnel mitigation, but still no protected signal phase.

We’ll ask. There is also an issue with salmoning in this area. Maybe there might be enough cash in the Stratford High Street or CFR7 pots to do some tweaks to the town centre & make the crossings more logical (although there are obviously higher priority things too.)

We're pleased to see this interim scheme and will be responding positively to the traffic order when it is published. Let's hope this momentum continues for a permanent solution for Stratford High Street, including adding protection to the other dangerous junctions at Warton and Carpenters Road.

Dockless ebikes dumped in foot tunnels under Thames. Our Head of Campaigns @psimonk.bsky.social speaking to @itvnews.bsky.social: www.itv.com/watch/news/e... says the issue isn't just the broken-down lifts or GPS signal in a tunnel, it's also the lack of nearby good river crossings for cycling.

It’s certainly not amazing driving, but the design should not force this kind of conflict anyway—because bus drivers are humans, and humans make mistakes from time to time. With floating bus stops this kind of conflict is impossible.

This doesn't just affect people who routinely take ebikes on public transport - although their needs matter too. It also discourages people trying to do their journeys by ebike. I'm much more willing to give it a go if I know I can bail to the Metro if I run out of puff or have a mechanical.

Cycling means to be safe everywhere, including at bus stops. Floating bus stops save lives. Tearing them out because some break the rules will lead to more bus-bike crashes, and more people in major trauma centres.
