As a vulnerable road user these findings are incredibly scary. Using a phone when driving should be an instant loss of licence.

As Mr Webb’s father said: “Nobody should be killed cycling within a 20mph area in London, it is totally unacceptable." TfL work to reduce speeding on Kenworthy Road is long overdue.

Odd box is good for reducing food waste & helping farmers get paid for their produce when supermarkets are fickle. Always fresh, if slightly odd shaped or non-standard size. This is what we got delivered today.

for those outside New Zealand: 2 years ago a veiled far-right astroturf org threatened to sue an investigative journalist for a book he was writing about them. He was not writing a book about them, but this incident meant former staff started leaking to him. He used those leaks to write a book.

We don't say "the knife went into the victim" because there is a person involved. The weapon in this instance is a car that didn't drive itself into the victim...

The reason we organise & ride Kidical Mass is to highlight the need for safe cycling infrastructure. It should be common sense to design our streets around the safety of children. When we design for children, we design for everyone. 20mph, school streets, cycle track, CPZs. @camcitco.bsky.social

This morning was the awesome Cambridge Kidical Mass. So many lovely interactions, most drivers waited patiently, others we just smiled & waved. One old man pedestrian thought it was a good time to shout at the kids "cyclists should pay 'road tax'". 🙄 So I had to cheer the kids on over his jeers. 😆

Received the severe alert first in Cymraeg, now, minutes later, in English. It could have been sent as a message rather than a loud buzzing alert. The alerts should only indicate risk to life, not a message to not use BBQs.

The old people are doing what?! 😳 www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio...
Article paragraph reads: We still get royalty cheques. The biggest was one year when we got £14,000 from Japan for ringtones. There was a CBBC remake a decade ago which went worldwide but the royalties from Kuala Lumpur are tuppence. I only get a standing ovulation from old people nowadays. But I still have a T-shirt saying “The bloke who wrote the music for Danger Mouse”!

And what of those young kids like mine learning to cycle on Cambridge roads, or those not-very-confident cyclists, when this is the attitude. One mistake and this driver believes "you deserve to be hit by a car going 30". It's horrible to think we share road space with people who think like this.

A reminder of #motonormitivity mindset. This person posts her belief that people walking/cycling deserve to be harmed by drivers for their mode of transport. This reply is in response to supporting a reduction in the speed limit from 30 to 20mph on some Cambridge roads. 🙂‍↕️ @camcitco.bsky.social
Reply to a call for 20mph on residential streets in Cambridge reads "if driving at 30 was dangerous there would be bodies everywhere.
Pedestrians should remember how mushy and soft they really are. Vulnerable road users bring it on themselves for the vast majority of the time. Often deservedly. It's good education to be bounced off the front of Doris doing 27mph in a 30"

But recognise that unless we (our local and national govt) make it easier to do incidental exercise, ensure healthy food can be accessed cheaply, and educate about a change in lifestyle habits it is unhelpful making this about people's personal choice.

Reminds me of a sad case of a child on a bike riding to school and being hit by a man in his car reversing out of his driveway. The child was severely brain damaged, his mother mounted a (victim-blaming) helmet campaign, the law was changed, and New Zealand still has compulsory cycle helmets.

As mentioned in the comments, a lot of the unwillingness to give up a licence is due to not wanting to lose independence, so as society we need to create the environment that enables people to travel and be independent without needing a car.
