All of this is indicative of a profound shift in the projected underlying cool season precipitation distribution in California. In southern California, the shift vs typical conditions is so dramatic that it essentially looks like that of a different climate region.
Blue histograms show 51 forecast members; dashed gray histograms show historical model members. Both use unsmoothed 25-percentage-point bins and integrate to one. Regional means are 165%, 194%, 226%; 10, 17, 11 members exceed the Northern, Central, and Southern California record ratios. These are uncalibrated model outcomes.

From Atlantic Birding today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is: #Black&White; any shot in black and white Alt. is #Vivid; any bird with bright colours Carolina Chickadee #birdphotography #chickadee #birds
The photo shows a Carolina Chickadee perched on a bare, slender tree branch. The bird is small, with a pale gray body, a black cap and throat, and bright white cheeks that stand out clearly against the darker head. The surrounding branches are thin and leafless, forming a loose tangle against a blurred gray background of an overcast day.

BORB! A puffed-up black phoebe in the park near me. It's both brown (despite the name) and borby for #BirdOfTheDay. #borbs #brown #EastCoastKin #ECK #scape #FlyDay #birds #PhotographersUnited #photography #ArtYear
A puffed-up black phoebe bird that looks like a little feathered sphere with legs and a beak. The bird is mostly dark brown with a white belly and white tips on a row of wing feathers. The eye, beak, and feet are black. It's facing about 10 o'clock with its head turned back toward the camera. It's perched on a wooden post with a few bright leaves around it. The background is shades of blurred green with some gold and orange.

Radars across the eastern half of the U.S. States exploded with reflectivity ~22 hrs ago. Most is the result of birds with current estimates now over half a BILLION actively in flight. This is part of the annual fall migration southward and appears to be the busiest night of the season underway.

Loving the new word "funga". Flora and fauna name the plants and animals of a place or time: flora of Maine, Pleistocene fauna. They are lovely, evocative because rooted in poetry & myth. Fungi had no such word, perhaps because they're hidden, mysterious, somehow deeply earthy and other-wordly.
