WELL NOW, would you look at that? A massive, 4-YEAR-LONG study of NEARLY 30 MILLION people in France found that individuals who received a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine had a 74% LOWER risk of death from severe COVID-19 compared to unvaccinated individuals and ZERO increased risk of all-cause mortality.

The government doesn’t track how often immigration agents detain U.S. citizens. So ProPublica did. We’ve tallied more than 500 Americans held against their will in warrantless arrests and detentions during President Trump’s second term.

This is Connor. Connor likes walkies. Today Connor got petted by several ppl on his evening walkies, including a teen boy who likes cats but whose mom is allergic. I think that really brightened that guy's day, which in turn brightens mine too. May it also brighten yours. #cute #cat #walkies #joy
A piebald (tabby on top, white on bottom) cat named Connor is standing on a dining room chair, his eyes wide as he begs for his evening walk. A piebald (tabby on top, white on bottom) cat named Connor is tummy up as he rolls on the pavement, happy to be on his evening walk. To expand on this: Bigotry isn't a result of an innocent misunderstanding, or not having all the facts. It's not a choice made rationally, defeated with a rational argument. Bigotry is a self-protective, foundational belief used to help make the world make sense to them. Debate won't change that.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

The thundering lack of awareness. My gob, it is smacked.
Engaged in a flirtatious conversation at a bar in Manhattan, 23-year-old Gary stood with a Guinness in hand as he explained to a woman why he took an engineering job at Palantir, the data analytics company cofounded by Alex Karp and Peter Thiel. Raking in a $250,000 salary would allow him to help pay off his parents’ mounting medical bills, he explained.
Gary wasn’t met with sympathy. Medical debt, the woman told him, was “not an excuse to work somewhere like that.” She was referring, of course, to Palantir’s controversial work with governments, including the US and Israel, which use the company’s surveillance tools for law enforcement and military operations.Gary has resorted to saying he works in AI. “Even that gets some pretty bad responses sometimes,” he says. His Hinge profile doesn’t mention his employer. And sometimes he makes up stories out of thin air to justify working for Palantir—like that line about the medical debt. His parents don’t have any, nor are they ill.

If the machines have consciousness they must be given human rights and if they are given human rights *then people cannot treat them the way they currently are treating them* (I don't believe the current tech they're making is capable of becoming conscious, but rather i want this stupidity ended)

I had to check if pa even allows it and apparently yes, its still legal, but no executions have been carried out since 1999 even tho it seems there are people who were given the sentence still in pa prisons. So apparently it is possible they could do that.

yet the lack of training wasn't the issue here, so why are we bringing it up.
Van Houten told NPR member station WSKG in an interview that Doe's statement was taken by "an experienced investigator" trained in sexual abuse investigations "over an extended period of time." Cornell University Police did not respond to questions about details of the length, time and place of the interview or other details of the manner of questioning before publication.

Its definitely worth it, esp if you get the pet on it young to get lower rates, then when a non dental emergency happens it can really come in clutch. My Archie's hospital stay last week was $4500 and insurance approved all of it. After my deductible and copays I got $3200 back within a few days.

Everyone keeps reaching for the “too big to fail” button because it is fundamentally harder for them to imagine what happens if it’s too big to succeed. The unique conditions in play make a bailout impossible. This is also an ideological bubble to the point I think it creates a schism in society.

make no mistake: anyone telling you AI is “just like the dot com bubble” or “just like Amazon web services or uber” is beyond misinformed, verging into the realms of actually wanting to know less about the world. It means they have never actually looked at any of the numbers. Or they can’t count.
