I try to use opportunities to "throw to" other players so they can shine. For example, if my character happens to be talking to an NPC about something, she'll call over the paladin who acts as our face so he can do his thing. I like to "pass the mic" to someone else when I can.

A roommate of mine (back when) had such a burning hatred of sports announcers that he would mock them loudly any time we tried to watch sports. It was funny, but we also came to the conclusion that a muted TV was ideal. You are wise.
