I had to pull out a calculator to figure out if I'm already 47, or if I'm turning 47 this year. I think my brain may be broken.

My wife and I use "as was the custom at the time" whenever we talk about something we used to do in our youth. Sometimes real. Sometimes imagined.

I've never been a coffee drinker. But I have discovered that if I use our Keurig to put a small mocha latte and a small hot chocolate in one mug, it's delicioius. Fortunately, I buy big mugs.

Actor Richard M Dumont is one of America's great un-sung heroes. You will know him if you were a fan of SNICK, back in the 90s.

Believe trans youth.
poster of the character from Assigned Male comics Stephie, with her arms crossed, who says : The longest and most extensive study on the matter (pagefoot note : the Lancet Journal of child and adolescent health, oct. 20th 2022) recently found that out of 720 trans teenagers who started hormone therapy half a decade ago, 98% were still continuing their treatment today. Desistance and detransition myths are lies designed to create a moral panic and a transphobic backlash. believe trans youth.

My QA person at work told me how impressed they are that my writing is clear, grammatical, and correctly spelled, given that I've told them I refuse to use AI. That just made me very, very sad.

It can never be proven to me that people say nice things about me. Because my wife would lie because she loves me. And kind, considerate people would feel pressured to say nice things *to* me just to make me feel better. And since it can't be proved...it's really hard to believe. I'm like that.

Yeah, this guy's a dear, dear friend. But it's not just friendship that makes me tell you he's awesome. I've commissioned a bunch of art from him, and it's always fantastic!

In the 1830s, everyone in the USA knew that canal waterways were the future of commerce. Every state started building a canal network with the vision of hooking them all into a national network. In 1837, there was a Great Recession and the tax base for the canal work collapsed. When the economy recovered 5 years later, the railroad boom was happening and everyone knew that canals were over. That's why every city in the Midwest has a half-finished canal in it. This is a post about data centers.

I may have mentioned this before, but it continues to tickle me. My mother-in-law (in her mid-80s) struggles with the they/them pronouns a bit. But she's trying hard! She regularly refers to me as "Morgan and them". Seriously, I love her so much.

it's very weird to me that i only got to know my mom after dad died like from the time i was about 11 to 24, i'm not sure she always remembered i existed. she once had to ask me when my birthday was. it wasn't so we could celebrate it, mind you, she was just filling something out 1/10

I don't know why I feel that I need to read dystopias even though the world is trending towards a more boring version. But there you are. To balance it out, I'm still working on the #Discworld read-though. On Lords and Ladies now.

I talk about hating my job, and I do. But we also just bought some desperately needed new recliners for the living room, and we couldn't have done that without my pay. So, there are compensations, is all I'm saying.

Another fun work-related story: I got employee of the month (which is hilarious, 'cause I really dislike my job, but am apparently good at it). The newsletter bio consistently referred to me as "they." I feel very seen and validated. Which might explain part of why I still work there.

I mentioned by wife in a work chat. A co-worker out of India messaged me, "But I thought you were a woman?" There were a thousand ways to respond, but I eventually decided it would be quickest to just explain I'm agender. She can learn about lesbians another time. (BTW, she responded well.)

when conservatives used liberal as a snarl world, liberals who were terrified of being conflated with leftists would always come back with "no, 'liberal' just means we care about diversity and democracy and civil rights" as if THAT wasn't exactly what the conservatives were objecting to

DeviantArt returns a lot of AI generated nonsense for every search I make nowadays. But a side effect DA being glutted with AI art is that I'm now seeing a lot - A LOT - of examples of what are clearly hyperspecific fetishes. Not gross ones, mind you, just deeply outre.
