Reading this it could be Trump in the middle and current EU leaders either side. Hitler’s persecution of Jews, the lack of respect for treaties, the yes men, populism, lies, territorial expansion, the global right in support. It’s happening again.

I think greens did well because floating voters went 18% to independents last time (that wasn’t an option this time). Great to see restore split the far right vote into 3. hope that effects is seen everywhere.

A new statue titled “The Orange Plague”, also known as “King of Injustice”, by Danish artist Jens Galschiøt has been unveiled inside the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, where it will remain through 8 October. Remember to stop by for a selfie if you have a chance. 😏📸
This sculpture is a satirical piece titled "[The Orange Plague] created by Danish artist Jens Galschiøt.

The Imagery: The 2.6-meter-tall, gold-plated bronze sculpture depicts a naked, oversized Donald Trump riding on the back of a smaller man. He is holding a golf club in one hand and a pair of scales in the other.

The Meaning: According to Galschiøt, the piece is a satirical commentary on modern political power, climate policy, and the subversion of the rules-based international order.

Recent Exhibition: In October 2026, the statue drew global headlines when it went on public display inside the European Parliament building in Strasbourg, France, organized by Danish MEP Per Clausen.

As long as the Tories are threatening to leave the ECHR, they aren’t a serious party. Consider it the ultimate red flag. Any party who’d take this entirely unnecessary and ruinous risk with our rights and our country’s security and wellbeing should never get its hands on power. (Letter, Times)
Value of the
ECHR
Sir, In dangerous times, serious countries do not retreat into splendid isolation. They build alliances, multiply their influence and strengthen institutions. Key among those is the 46-member Council of Europe, at its heart the European Convention on Human Rights. As former independent reviewers of terrorism legislation we have seen at close quarters that the ECHR is not just a human rights instrument. It is a national security asset. Terrorist networks, hostile states, organised crime gangs and people smugglers do not respect borders. Tackling them requires arrangements for the closest possible co-operation with our neighbours, including through joint investigations and police access to European passenger, fingerprint, DNA and vehicle data. These arrangements expressly depend on internationally agreed human rights standards, applied by a supranational court. We detect no political willingness to excuse the UK from compliance with standards to which the rest of Europe already subscribes. As authoritarian powers grow more aggressive and democratic institutions face mounting pressure, Britain should not be abandoning one of its greatest postwar achievements.
The question is not whether we can afford to remain within the ECHR. It is whether, in an increasingly perilous world, we can afford not to.
Lord Carlile of Berriew, Lord Anderson of Ipswich, Sir Max Hill

This. It has always been this. A sitting American president did this. And because he did this, he should have been convicted and put behind bars. And the fact that we never held him accountable for these crimes will forever stain this country. And we may never recover from it.👇

There may be hope with regard to #AI. AI is replacing white collar jobs. Folks who would usually go for these will replace less well qualified people doing physical jobs. No good when some people need simple work. But AI can’t be trusted so white collar roles may return to AI proof humans and paper?

Teaching fellows are ace! They create room for teaching and research folks. They should be paid and respected as much as research types. Student fees should pay for teaching. Research should be low cost or funded externally, it should not be funded by student loans.
