If I ruled the world, "gender ideology" would refer to the belief that there are precisely two genders that correspond to one's anatomy in an obvious and unproblematic way

Intelligence is also culturally defined and not everyone links it to verbal ability. I'm thinking today about the story of the Indigenous man who said to the settler, "you want to talk to someone to see if he's worth hunting with. I want to hunt with someone to see if he's worth talking to"

IMO particle physics is far less practical than nearly every social science, but people act like it’s the opposite. Like, my guy, quarks will never have an effect on your daily life, but you’re going to be involved in multiple stance triangles every day, and you won’t even be aware of them.

That being said, what is happening to DC now is a travesty. My mom was born in Romania, and she said it reminds her of Bucharest under Ceaușescu. We need to do so much more than de-Trumpify the Mall and get rid of the National Guard. I love DC, but Statehood is the only way it can truly thrive.

DC gets a bad rap from... well, everyone. But this is a real-ass city with culture and community that are worth celebrating. I met my wife, lifelong friends, and all sorts of rad people here. My career blossomed. Once I factor in free museums and bike lanes, I can't imagine living anywhere else.

Too often, we neglect the subtleties of Homer's original text. For instance, this famous passage: Odysseus is coming And everybody's jumping His wife has many suitors His son, a godly tutor His giant horse is wooden His guilt is a great burden So if you like to party He'll make you a dead body

Just canceled my DashPass and sent this email to DoorDash. I encourage you to do the same if you support D.C. home rule. press@doordash.com and ir@doordash.com
Hello,

I’m writing to let you know that I just canceled my DashPass because of DoorDash’s disgraceful campaign against D.C. home rule.

DoorDash is urging Congress to nullify a new D.C. law imposing a 20 percent tax on food-delivery services—not merely by overturning that law, but by prohibiting the District from enacting any new tax without prior congressional approval. That is an extraordinarily sweeping assault on D.C.’s right to govern itself and an odious insult to the District’s residents.

I am especially disgusted by DoorDash’s public claim that it is somehow defending D.C. residents while actively seeking to strip us of our right to govern ourselves through our own democratically elected lawmakers. Please do not pretend that disenfranchising District residents is an act undertaken on our behalf.

I intend to publicize DoorDash’s attack on home rule as widely as possible and urge everyone I know to boycott the company.

Shame on you.

The arguments against language reclamation haven't changed much in the nearly 20 years I've been working in this field: "It costs too much." "People are choosing to abandon their languages, so let them." "They have no practical use." "It's just sentimental nostalgia." Fuck All That, a thread:

The statement by students, also written out in the alt text
For Immediate Release from The Organizers:
On Saturday, May 10th, 2026, Howard University graduating seniors organized a protest and rally in opposition to Howard University's decision to select Muriel Bowser as keynote speaker of this year's Commencement Convocation. A commencement convocation ceremony is meant to be a final congratulations to the graduates on behalf of the University by offering words of encouragement and guidance as they step into a new life phase. Typically, a keynote speaker is a person of upright character. They should be a living example of competence, truth, and service.
Muriel Bowser demonstrates none of these qualities. Any resident of the D.C. area is familiar with the increase in police and federal agent presence in the city. These officers have targeted Black young people (including Howard University students) in their attempt to control and subdue Black bodies. Bowser did nothing to prevent the federal takeover of D.C., and offers no protection to the people she swore in to serve. To make matters worse, Bowser is implicated in the killing of millions of men, women, and children in Gaza through her partnership with the genocidal American Israel Public Affairs Committee.
Why does Howard University believe Muriel Bowser is qualified to offer words of wisdom to Black students, many of whom will soon return to Black communities across the country?
Why won't Howard University take a public stance against anti-Blackness, capitalist greed, and war?
Since the University is not willing to demonstrate care and responsibility toward issues that affect the reality of Black people in the DMV and oppressed people abroad, students decided to act in actual alignment with the values of truth and service.
During Bowser's speech, some students turned their backs while she spoke. Others began to yell from the audience. Several students got up and walked out of the ceremony and participated in a celebration of their own.
This is the truth.
