Woke up to the news that Stevie Wonder was surprise-dropping an EP of four outtakes from "Songs in the Key of Life": open.spotify.com/album/7gzJYO... Which is a bit like "oh, 'Nine Stories' was originally going to be 'Thirteen Stories,' here are the other four..."

My first Batman comic was #321, a Len Wein/Walter Simonson banger (with García-López cover!). I loved it but it did make me wonder how desperate one would have to be to take a job henchmanning for the Joker.

Holy crap this is an amazing deal. Both volumes of "My Favorite Thing Is Monsters"! The first two volumes apiece of Krazy Kat, Popeye, Pogo and Prince Valiant! Introductions to both Jaime and Gilbert Hernandez! "The Frank Book"! "I Killed Adolf Hitler," one of the funniest books ever! MORE!

A fun rundown of the past 20 years' worth of NEW THRILLS. I particularly wave the flag for Zombo, The Out, Cradlegrave, and especially Brink, which started out fantastic and keeps getting better with each successive volume--ingenious concept, note-perfect execution.

I used to have students reverse-engineer a script for "Chronocops": what information do you have to provide to get the plot and jokes across in this *very* tightly structured story (a parody of a parody!), while giving an artist the greatest possible latitude to be visually playful?

Celebrity obits are often drafted LONG in advance. I'd forgotten that I wrote (a large chunk of) Billboard's Dolly Parton obituary, more than a decade ago, until a friend texted me about it just now! www.billboard.com/music/countr...

Saw this 1889 Tsukioka Yoshitoshi print ("Oniwakamaru Observing the Great Carp in the Pond") yesterday, and immediately thought "Frank Miller saw this at some point and decided that the linework on the pants was the perfect inking style." No idea if that's the case, but I like my theory.

Three of the trailers at last night’s movie included tons of reverb and minor chords added to the original vocals from a ‘70s rock hit. Future generations looking to parody 2026-style film trailers, there you go.

I've been trying to find out about circa-1970 pop music from various countries for a project. I keep running into a phenomenon where a song/artist is the subject of many nearly identical references, apparently paraphrased from each other, but doesn't appear to exist in any audible form.
