Last remnants of humanity watch powerless from the International Space Station as the final pockets of the Earth's surface are consumed. Our planet is now an anchor for Xipe Totec, the alien organism we were powerless against, as it continues spreading throughout the cosmos.
Planet Earth as viewed from the International Space Station. Most of the planet's surface is covered in an enormous mass of flesh, tendons and eyes squirming as they grow to cover the last patch of untouched surface, an unassuming part of the ocean.

the images of earth from artemis ii are absolutely gorgeous
Earth as seen from the Orion capsule. It is divided sharply in half, with a line running diagonally from the 11 o'clock to the 4 o'clock. The lower left half is a bright pale blue. Its surface is covered with swirly, puffy white clouds, with texture indicating different thicknesses. The upper right half is dark, with no illumination from the Sun. The planet is a dreamy pale blue, swirling with white clouds and reflected sunlight. Although Earth only fills a fraction of the image it is the brightest object in the image by far. The capsule window is surrounded by a thick frame held in place with bolts, reminiscent of a heavy duty airplane window. It is dark in the capsule, but the outlines of straps and various components of the capsule are visible. Brighter white components are visible in the upper right corner. From about 8 to 9 o'clock, a large brown landmass is Africa, with the Iberian peninsula twinkling with lights just where the planet curves. NGC 1805 - From Judy Schmidt (geckzilla.bsky.social) - flic.kr/p/2hGxYpA
This is a globular cluster located in the outskirts of the Large Magellanic Cloud. The reason it looks so colorful is because it was imaged in red/near-infrared (the red channel filter overlaps both) and near-ultraviolet. HST is one of the only observatories still in operation capable of ultraviolet observations due to its location above Earth's atmosphere. Astronomers are especially keen to make use of its ultraviolet abilities before the harsh environment of space takes its inevitable toll on the telescope. Yes, the telescope will eventually stop working altogether, but even before that happens, the detectors which pick up ultraviolet light are also quickly losing sensitivity.

Globular clusters typically take on an overall muted yellow color in visible spectrum images, but the near-infrared and near-ultraviolet filters are very good at highlighting what might otherwise be subtle differences and the result is a beautifully colorful image. You might also notice the faint red apparitions of galaxies in the background. They are relatively faint in ultraviolet light, so they appear unusually red in this particular image, but their shapes are unmistakably galactic.

Data from the following proposals were used to create this image.

Tumblr post from eldritchdilf-deactivated2025061:
"Contrary to popular belief the biggest beginner's roadblock to art isn't even technical skill it's frustration tolerance, especially in the age of social media. It hurts and the frustration is endless but you must build the frustration tolerance equivalent to a roach's capacity to survive a nuclear explosion. That's how you build on the technical skill. Throw that "won't even start because I'm afraid it won't be perfect" shit out the window. Just do it. Just start. Good luck."

Narrowband NGC 3293 - The Gem Cluster - From Rolf Wahl Olsen - flic.kr/p/2pSMtxp
NGC 3293, often referred to as the Gem Cluster, is a spectacular bright open star cluster located in the constellation of Carina. In this narrowband bicolour image the delicate nebulosity across the entire background really stands out.
It is one of the Southern Sky's finest binocular objects and consists of nearly one hundred stars huddled together in a tight group, with a contrasting bright red supergiant near it's centre - similar in appearance to Kappa Crucis in the Jewel Box Cluster.
Floating against a colourful backdrop of Milky Way stars and red Hydrogen emission, the cluster is also surrounded by a delicate faint blue haze visible in broadband images.
The cluster was discovered by Abbé Nicolas Louis de La Caille in 1752 during his expedition to the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa.

Close-up with the Rosette Nebula (RGB Colour) - From Rolf Wahl Olsen - flic.kr/p/UYaQwE
Visible here is a small portion of the large Rosette Nebula (NGC 2237), centered on its central cluster of stars; NGC 2244.
This large round nebula lies some 5000 light years away and can be found in the constellation Monoceros near Orion. In optical wide field images the entire nebula appears strikingly similar to the petals of a red rose, hence the name.
The image is constructed from exposures in three very narrow (3nm) wavelength bands corresponding to the emission profiles of ionised Hydrogen, Oxygen and Sulphur to form the resulting detailed and brightly coloured scene. The combined images in each filter were assigned to their natural colour channels using a PixelMath expression in PixInsight. This enables a synthetic 'natural' colour image to be created from the narrowband data.
Several striking shapes can be seen here, many of which resemble animals of various kinds. In particular the figure of a leaping Cheetah is very obvious near the centre. These dark shapes are denser clouds of dust and gas, slowly being eroded away by the intense ultraviolet radiation from the young stars in the central cluster. These stars have themselves condensed out of the nebula relatively recently. The brightest cluster members, HD 46223 and HD 46150, are massive O-type stars with stellar winds and radiation powerful enough to have cleared the nebula's central cavity around the cluster.

The Centurion, art by Emil Mitev

A concept sketch of a massive fantasy airship or flying galleon. The vessel features a complex rigging system and numerous billowing white sails, with mechanical elements integrated into the hull. The ship is shown flying past a detailed, dark industrial dock or platform with small buildings and cranes, set against a mostly white background.
