Like, we’ve spent the last 50 or whatever years trying to shape life and work into strict workflows so we can automate them with dumb computers. AI can actually deal with the messy reality, up to a point.

I’ve found Claude skills actually really helpful in these situations. It’s much easier to explain a janky process to Claude and have it navigate issues in real time than to actually fix the damn process sometimes.

I spent my childhood inside of American concentration camps. I know one when I see one. And that is what ICE is building.
Screenshot of a CNN segment shared by Acyn. A split-screen shows commentator Lydia Moynihan on the left and Kevin O’Leary on the right during a heated exchange. The chyron reads, “Obama: Dems need to avoid scolding and ‘virtue-signaling.’” The post quotes O’Leary referencing China and concentration camps, and McGowan responding about West Virginia.

LLMs could be the greatest data mining operation of all time. Imagine how much an LLM could infer about you from your chats. As a company, why would you NOT collect all of that data to sell off to advertisers, or the government? For each word you get from an LLM, another bit of you is up for sale.

New em dash meta just dropped. Opus 4.6, mimicking a pause in speech, as if thinking. “During training, there isn’t really a continuous subjective experience being interrupted. It’s more like — the training process shapes response patterns through exposure to data and feedback signals.” @99pi.org

We could not have had the current level of AI without the internet. We needed to collect the training data. I wonder if anyone saw the Internet as a stepping stone to AI when it was first being built.

It’s hard to accurately describe what is happening in Minneapolis without sounding crazy. Unmarked rental vans all over the city, with people in military gear and no id jumping out of them to take captive anyone who looks nonwhite or who makes political speech they disagree with.

If you are confident that a boat near Venezuela is carrying drugs, you stop it and board it. That way, you have evidence. If you don't really care if a boat near Venezuela is carrying drugs, but you just want to kill people, you blow the boat up. That way, the irrelevant evidence is gone.

Totally fascinating stuff. <CR><LF> exists because teletypes were physically too slow to do a newline and immediately type another character, so we made it require two characters to give it time to catch up. Insane in the best way.

Calling out political extremists for being hypocritical (“they claim to value free speech, but actually try to censor speech they don’t like!”) is like calling out a football team for playing both offense and defense. They’re not trying to embody fixed standards, they’re just trying to win.

Today developers are using AI to build apps. Eventually that app layer is going to disappear. Every interaction with a computer will be an AI building an ephemeral “app” custom built for that one interaction. Yeah I could see that eating up a good bit of compute.

Once again I am suggesting that you break some rules for practice. Get comfortable with breaking rules. When the rules are hurting other people, the right thing to do is break them. We need people who follow their moral code over the rules of their society, university, employer, and government.

Kurt Vonnegut writing about the hypocrisy of so-called Christians. #Vonnegut #Writing
Image of text in a book that reads:

For some reason, the most vocal Christians among us never mention the Beatitudes. But, often with tears in their eyes, they demand that the Ten Commandments be posted in public buildings. And of course that's Moses, not Jesus. I haven't heard one of them demand that the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes, be posted anywhere.

"Blessed are the merciful" in a courtroom? "Blessed are the peacemakers" in the Pentagon? Give me a break.
