Crazy green estuary braids along the south coast of #Iceland, seen from the #DJIMavic3Pro drone in Oct 2023.
Green swirly patterns in a river estuary with some slight brown and blue tones in places, and a few white birds just visible on the surface.

Macron has consistently shown contempt for democracy, refusing even to appoint a left-leaning gov after 2024 elex. Today, kids demanding investment in better futures are schooling adults in democratic agency. His gov responds with manipulation, intimidation & violence - a lesson in abuse of power.

My third novel, HERO COME HOME, officially has a cover! Preorderable from the usual places us.macmillan.com/books/978125...
The cover of my third novel, HERO COME HOME. Four human figures centred, the main image being that of a bearded man looking back over his shoulder (that's Oro, the protagonist), with a circle of symbols behind him. We can see a swan and a key. In the foreground are three people: two women, one with a mysterious marking? scar? who knows!? on her cheek and the other carrying a sword, flanking an older, balding man holding up a pistol. The possibly-scarred woman looks ever so slightly amused, and that is certainly very like her. Everybody else is not happy to be here, or indeed, anywhere

This is my favourite Borges story.
The Witness by Borges and translated by ANTHONY KERRIGAN

In a stable lying almost in the shadow of the new stone church, a man with
gray eyes and a gray beard, stretched on the ground amidst the animal
odors, meekly seeks death like someone seeking sleep. The day, faithful to
vast secret laws, continuously displaces and confounds the shadows in the
wretched stable. Outside stretch the tilled fields, a deep ditch filled up with
dead leaves, and the tracks of a wolf in the black mud where the woods
begin. The man sleeps and dreams, forgotten. The bells calling to prayer
awake him. In the kingdoms of England, the sound of the bells is already
one of the customs of the afternoon, but the man, while still a boy, had
seen the face of Woden, had seen holy dread and exultation, had seen the
rude wooden idol weighed down with Roman coins and heavy vestments,
seen the sacrifice of horses, dogs, and prisoners. Before dawn he would be
dead and with him would die, never to return, the last firsthand images of
the pagan rites. The world would be poorer when this Saxon was no more.
We may well be astonished by space-filling acts which come to an end
when someone dies, and yet something, or an infinite number of things,
die in each death—unless there is a universal memory, as the theosophists
have conjectured. There was a day in time when the last eyes to see Christ
were closed forever. The battle of Junín and the love of Helen died with
the death of some one man. What will die with me when I die? What
pathetic or frail form will the world lose? Perhaps the voice of Macedonio
Fernandez, the image of a horse in the vacant space at Serrano and
Charcas, a bar of sulfur in the drawer of a mahogany desk?

I mean… I was going to eat that parsley… but they’re so stinking cute I can’t be mad. The whole reason it’s growing in a container instead of the ground is that voles ate it last year. I guess parsley is just that good. Western NC USA #invertebrate
A large swallowtail caterpillar on a parsley stem it has eaten all the leaves off of. The caterpillar is greenish yellow with black bands that have yellow dots in them.2 slightly smaller swallowtail caterpillars munching on the same parsley stem. They are more yellow and less green than the first one, possibly because they’ve consumed less parsley.A much smaller swallowtail caterpillar on a parsley plant that has been almost denuded of leaves. This first instar caterpillar is mostly black, with a white patch, although it does have the same yellow dots as the larger ones.
