I like this notetaking example. it is a good case of how gender works. Notetaking has never been about producing a transcript. It is a bureaucratic skill in the 20th c. organixarion because it is SENSEMAKING. Those women socialized to take notes? They have been doing men’s metacognition for them

It’s almost as if there are more ways to measure the value of work than just the amount of money it makes people.
A country with fewer social workers and teaching aides, with less study of the arts and history, is a country that’s not investing in its own future.

AI didn’t “go rogue.” People connected a computer system they know can mess with another computer system in unpredictable ways to less advanced computer system and it messed with that computer system in unpredicted ways. As @tressiemcphd.bsky.social argues, don’t lose sight that *people* did that.

thinking about this takedown of northerners & liberals written by thomas wentworth higginson in 1865.
It is we who are permitting black loyalists to be disarmed, and white rebels to be armed again, under the name of "militia." It is we who are permitting open proclamation of the re-establishment of slavery under the name of "apprenticeship." It is we who consent to the exclusion from the courts and the ballot-box of those who have fought to reopen the ballet-box and re-establish the power of the courts. It is we who are reviving the old assumption that "the peo-ple" of the South means the white population, rebel or otherwise; and that the black loyalists are something less than "the people."Thomas Wentworth Higginson in 1870.
