The ability to pour hundreds of millions of pounds into a loss-making TV channel, bent on wrenching British politics sharply to the right, is yet another of the ways in which extreme wealth is trying to remake UK democracy. It needs to be part of any serious conversation about political funding.

This government has made life dramatically harder for trans children and their families. The human costs are enormous. Cal is not the first parent I know that has made the gut wrenching decision to leave the country. Read this then start fighting for a world where trans kids can live and thrive.

Labour's immigration/asylum policies are profoundly racist and xenophobic. They embolden far right, undermine international law and violate basic human rights, while being even more hostile than the previous government. They can't be tweaked. They need to be scrapped. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

After a couple of months, re-entering the job market as a 51 year old queer woman, and newly disabled to boot was HORRIFYING. No shortlisting, no interviews, and for jobs I was overqualified for. I was scared Id never get another job!...

Lots of nonsense gets brought up in Parliament. Some end up having negative consequences, such as when this is placed into context of how barbers and beauty salons are already framed in terms of immigration and how this could be used to fuel further attacks on the rights of people working in them 1/

We are grinning ear to ear because 1) everything ran smoothly 2) we love each other. 3) its finally nearly 🍷o'clock (pic taken at 6:30 I think). There were SO many feelings at the lobby, but love and respect - for ourselves and each other - was everywhere. This is movement MADE of love. ❤️🏳️‍⚧️❤️

🧵Yesterday hundreds of trans people, family and friends queued for *hours* to exercise their democratic rights -lobbying their MPs to stand up for trans people's right to live as free and equal members of society. This is me and my wonderful friend Alex after a day of running (another) mass lobby 👇
Two women smiling broadly with their arms around each other holding up small signs. One says "Mass Lobby for Trans Equality" the other says "Trans people deserve real equality". The woman on the left has short grey hair, and is wearing a short sleeved light blue shirt. The woman on the right has long black wavy hair, and is wearing a red t shirt and a high vis.

Thank you so much to the hundreds of trans people and allies who joined today's mass lobby! The queue stretched across both sides of the road outside Parliament, and so many MPs participated in meetings and responded to green cards. Together, we delivered a powerful message for change 🏳️‍⚧️

Organising - why bother? Lots of despair from trans folks on the tl and other places of late. Things are horrible and scary. I also think we’re doing brilliantly at fighting back given the asymmetry of arms at play. We are so deep in a pit at the moment in terms of trans rights in the UK.

This week, trans children all over England are starting the school year in schools that have been told to segregate them from their friends and peers. If they are brave enough to do that, every single cis ally should be brave enough to show up at a lobby for trans equality 👇👇

The biggest change I can see is in parents, who are much less likely to be aware of their children's usage of social media post ban. IE they are more checked out, and are assuming the ban 'works' (it doesn't) 👀. Read the (not "buried") report in full here: www.esafety.gov.au/sites/defaul...

Remember Streeting's review into whether young people are being overdiagnosed with ADHD, autism, and mental health issues? Well, the interim report is out, and there's a reason the media are silent on it (spoiler: it proves what a lot of us have been saying all along)
In others, notably ADHD and autism, rising diagnoses and referrals appear to exceed changes in underlying epidemiological prevalence and are likely to reflect a combination of:

improved recognition
changing help-seeking behaviour
institutional incentives
pressures within existing service pathways
Across both ADHD and autism, best currently available population-based estimates remain relatively stable, while administrative diagnoses, self-identification and recorded service demand have increased substantially. In autism, the evidence also points to particularly rapid growth in identified need within educational systems, including increasing identification among girls and among young people without learning disability. These patterns suggest that rising demand is not simply the result of increasing prevalence, but of several processes operating simultaneously, including:

real increases in distress in some groups
improved recognition of previously unmet need
changing expectations about support
systems that frequently rely on formal diagnosis as the primary route to assistance
Across the system, support is too often accessed through pathways that are slow, fragmented and heavily dependent on diagnostic categorisation. While diagnosis remains essential for some forms of clinical decision-making, the evidence suggests that current arrangements do not always provide the most effective or efficient way of identifying and responding to need. In particular, where access to support depends heavily on formal diagnosis, demand for diagnostic assessment can increase more rapidly than systems are able to respond, generating long waiting times, duplication of assessment and pressure on specialist services.

The next phase of the review will therefore focus on clarifying the relationship between distress, diagnosis and need, and on examining how systems might respond more effectively to these patterns. A central objective will be to identify opportunities for developing more coherent, evidence-informed care pathways that enable support to be provided earlier and more proportionately, while ensuring that specialist services are available in a timely and appropriate manner for those whose needs are most complex.
