Workshop information:
As part of the Canadian Cryo-EM Nexus, The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and Structura Biotechnology are pleased to announce a two-day CryoSPARC workshop:

Beyond consensus refinements: Advanced cryo-EM data processing with CryoSPARC

at SickKids in Toronto on September 24-25, 2026.

Led by experts from Structura, this workshop offers a unique opportunity for participants who already have a sound understanding of cryo-EM and substantial CryoSPARC experience to deepen their skills and become a key resource for cryo-EM image analysis within their institutions.

There is $115 (CAD) charge to partially defray some of the costs of running the workshop, which is sponsored by SickKids and Structura. Attendees will need to bring their own laptop computer and arrange for travel and accommodation.
Please apply before July 24, 2026 using the following link:

Experimental hepatitis B treatment was a ‘functional cure’ for nearly 1 in 5, new data show
An experimental GSK drug helped 1 in 5 patients with chronic hepatitis B achieve what's known as a functional cure, vastly outpacing current treatments.

A nice piece at @science.org covers the exploding field of bacterial immunity, and how it led to the understanding that components of the human immune system evolved from bacterial defenses against phage www.science.org/content/arti...

Why do influenza viruses make ludicrously long filamentous virions? Probably lots of reasons, but in a new study Lu Liu et al. provide evidence for an appealing hypothesis: filaments are more stable in acidic solutions and hence survive for longer in aerosols www.nature.com/articles/s41...
