Tyrants view educated citizens as their greatest enemy. Slaveholders stopped the enslaved from learning to read. Nazis burned books. Dictators censor media. That’s why Trump is attacking education, science, museums, the media, and the arts – to prevent us from learning. It's Fascism 101.

Not only are researchers facing AI-created review by chatbots, they're wondering if they should report it or just go with the flow? Humans can be very unreasonable on review if they have an axe to grind-- plus it can be very challenging to find reviewers, so reporting = further delays. 🧪
Luke Allen
Health policy advisor and co-director

Second time I've received AI peer reviews from a Q1 journal 🤖📝

In both cases, 2/3 reviews were very obviously pasted chatbot content. Do editors not realise? Or not care?

Apart from the fact that they tend to be exhaustingly and exhaustively lengthy, the real problem is that chatbot reviews are generally more reasonable than the average reviewer 3.

There's a disincentive to report back to the journal because it will take them another six months to find new reviewers, and then you're rolling the dice on how reasonable they will be.

Better the silicon-based devil you know?

The compounding irony is that the AI comments are so lenghty that I now increasingly use a chatbot to generate my response to reviewer document. And of course it merrily suggests that it could take a stab at some of the simple grammar/formatting issues.

How long until scientific publishing is just papers written by AI, being reviewed by AI, and revised by AI?
