Oh, we're still on the "significantly reformed EU" nonsense are we? Like the UK has the power to dictate terms as a returning hero or some such? Same EU as per the last 40 years at least. Be part of it or not. Full stop. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

It would be analytically helpful and less irritating if more Brits looked at emerging frameworks between the EU and Canada from the perspective of Canadian strategic interests rather than whether they save the British from their delusional blunders. Ottawa is not doing this to save London..

Two things. One of the main exploitation methods of those spreading misinformation is to take normal scientific arguments over details and suggest they imply doubt over an entire subject. The second, what is ‘at best’ supposed to imply other than that the idea that long covid itself is a lie?

Palantir put out a 22-point summary of their CEO's book The Technological Republic. It's pitched as a defence of the West, but if you read it through the VDA framework, verification, deliberation, accountability, what it's actually doing looks rather different. twitter-thread.com/t/2045574398...
Opening text of a thread by Palantir from X
Because we get asked a lot.

The Technological Republic, in brief.

1. Silicon Valley owes a moral debt to the country that made its rise possible. The engineering elite of Silicon Valley has an affirmative obligation to participate in the defense of the nation.

2. We must rebel against the tyranny of the apps. Is the iPhone our greatest creative if not crowning achievement as a civilization? The object has changed our lives, but it may also now be limiting and constraining our sense of the possible.

3. Free email is not enough. The decadence of a culture or civilization, and indeed its ruling class, will be forgiven only if that culture is capable of delivering economic growth and security for the public.

4. The limits of soft power, of soaring rhetoric alone, have been exposed. The ability of free and democratic societies to prevail requires something more than moral appeal. It requires hard power, and hard power in this century will be built on software.

For me, as an Eastern European, the USSR meant occupation, repression, loss of freedom, and hunger, not emancipation. When the Western Left ignores these experiences, it reproduces the very exclusion it claims to criticize.

11. This story is being spun as one bad apple. That awful man went off-piste and betrayed the national interest. Yes, he did, and he did it secretly in his disgraceful dealings with Epstein. But in other respects he undermined democracy with the full backing of the government. It was the policy.

That most voters don't seem to care is a significant indicator of the growing divergence between the wider public's image of the UK's place in the world and the continuing aspirations of UK media and political elites to retain some final vestige of great power status
