We have to understand the link between the SEND Review and the curriculum review. A developmentally appropriate Primary curriculum built from EYFS up is essential to help us meet needs - we can’t be all things to all people - but doing curriculum properly now will support inclusion.

I love the commentary at the Winter Olympics... One of the commentators at the snowboarding has just said, "Watching that trick if you're a judge is akin to watching The Shining when you're home alone." What does that even mean?!

When we allow the loudest voices to dominate classroom conversation, we neglect to show respect and dignity to all our students, forgetting that every voice needs to be heard.

Recently, BlueSky seems to be getting far too much like Xitter; people posting confused, angry replies without properly reading a post, and/or a linked-to article. Please everyone, let’s try not to do this - or we will just end up with yet another social media hellscape.

3) So maybe the question is: how do we balance structure with trust? Enough scaffolding that no one drowns, but enough freedom to feel like a teacher, not an actor reading a script. That, to me, is the heart of supporting ECTs. Thoughts?

It’s time for the annual posting of this Private Eye cartoon by Dave. Festive greetings to all English teachers.
The cartoon depicts a humorously convoluted take on Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” In it, a figure labeled “The Ghost of Christmas Future Perfect Subjunctive” tells a nervous-looking Scrooge-like character:
“I will show you what would have happened to you, were you not to have changed your ways…”

Today’s poem celebrates Fibonacci Day. It’s called ‘Word Crunching’.
Word Crunching

I
wrote
a poem
on a page
but then each line grew
to the word sum of the previous two
until I began to worry about all these words coming with such frequency
because as you can see, it can be easy to run out of space when a poem gets all Fibonacci sequency

A very interesting read, here. We are really focussing on improving children's recall this year and I'm determined not to invent some sort of sticking plaster that gives the illusion of improved memory. This has really got me thinking about what retrieval practice shouldn't look like.
