A new arrival here at Weir HQ - Jonny Trunk's really lovely new book - Holiday Exotica (published by Fuel Publishing). Have only had a quick peek so far, but very happy - and good to see some of John Hinde’s postcards featured.

Caught up with a couple of Norfolk's more senior sonic scientists last night, and stumbled across this. 36 seconds of brilliant outsider art. I do wish they were better known than they are. Hey ho - such is life I suppose.

Assumed this find (care of Mrs Weir) was another one for the buzzard collection given the flurry of recent finds, but having double-checked on featherbase.info* I think it’s actually a kestrel feather. Such a beautiful little gift from such a brilliant bird.
A small striped feather which appears to be from a kestrel.

Well, my photographs from the eclipse last night were largely hopeless - that said, I quite like this lens quirk that has rendered a shadow image in blue just above the horizon, while the main event happens up above.
A bad picture of the partial eclipse, which through some lens quirk, has rendered a shadow image of the sun in blue just above the horizon, while the main event happens up above.

The last partial eclipse I managed to see was in March 2015. I was at work, and I had to lean out of a second-floor window to take a snap. Although what I recall almost as much were the colleagues who just sat at their desks working away, regardless. Some people aren't easily impressed.

I love a motorway me. I think it’s because I live in one of the (9?) counties in England without a motorway passing through it. Which perhaps goes some way to explain why a new compilation LP from the mighty Bob Stanley has arrived today. Looks great, expect it'll sound great too :)

As as subscriber to many many "newsletters" I have to be honest and confess that they don't all get read. John's always do - and this one, about Penelope Keith and the marvellous Margo (which also includes references to Ever Decreasing Circles), is particularly good.

First noticing of a Chiffchaff earlier today - a welcome sound of the seasons motoring along, although as Melissa Harrison pointed out, they're also the "original monkey with a miniature cymbal". So pros and cons eh?

I tried to eek them out for as long as I could, but I've now seen all six episodes, and I adored them. Slightly disheartened to get to the end so quickly, but very happy to find out that good things will come to those who wait. Mackenzie Crook's a keeper eh?

Waving from "brutal" Norfolk - if there's anyone from @telegraph.co.uk out there, please be aware we do now have running water and mains electricity. Also there's a reason why we're somewhat unforgiving and one of the reasons is pictured.
A clipping from The Telegraph newspaper that is headlined "Norfolk's the perfect place to banish Andrew to - it's brutal" accompanied by a picture of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor looking alarmed. So that's something.

Just thinking back to 20 years ago when I thought about what my life and weekends might be like in the future. A cool, cultured, middle aged glamour and still a keen sense of style, perhaps. The reality? Spending my Sunday evening watching the 1978 Come Dancing final on BBC4.

Made a little felt Triffid, based on the Penguin paperback cover. In retrospect I wish I hadn’t chosen the most nutsack colour to sew what was already quite a bollockular form but sometimes I quite enjoy having created myself a bit of an obstacle to deal with, or in this case, a testicle to surmount

Three years ago to the day the morning arrived enveloped in fog – far more suitable for Halloween than today’s bright sunshine. And as I was working in the office next door I took a few minutes to photograph this building - the Exorcist’s House, hunkered down in the shadow of St Nicholas’ Chapel.

It's taken an age to do so, but this afternoon Mrs Weir and I managed to see a goldcrest, rather than just hear them up in the trees taunting us. Remarkably, we spotted three of them together in a hedge just three or four feet from us - a red-letter day :) © Francis C. Franklin CC-BY-SA-3.0

Here begins a load of old photos from the Lost in a Landscape series, some I wrote about, some I didn’t, and the book will happen one day, but other stuff is going on, so not now. Seawall Eccles, Norfolk. #LostinaLandscape
A seawall only more so. It’s a curve and a vanishing point, it’s a barrier and a punch pointlessly returned to the sea.
