On #ALevelMaths last week, I used Q3 from this pack from @andrewmaths1.bsky.social for both of my Y12 and Y13 groups. They loved the unfamiliarity of the questions, with one of my Y12s asking for more of this type! #mathstoday

In #Mathstoday during #ALevelMathsz a pupil asked about why cot(pi/2) = 0 and this provoked a good oracy discussion about the definition of cotangent.

9 hours per fortnight Grade requirements is a 7, though 6s are accepted if it comes up with a work ethic and that they choose Maths as their 4th option just in case it doesn't work out. Early days about our 6s, but will do a baseline test soon. #ALevelMaths

I'll be doing this during period 5 (last session before #MathsConf41 ends)! This presentation should hopefully deliver powerful discussions to all participants on why we should use multiple choice questions in #ALevelMaths So the big question is: Should all exam boards adopt this and why?

In my school, we continue to cater for the students depending on their needs (some will say that we're very radical!). It does mean that potentially all eight optional units are taught. Though so far for our Year 13s, it's a mix of FP1, FP2, FM1, FM2 and D1. #alevelmaths

Definitely do the TAM course from AMSP. Lots of useful pedagogy learnt and you get to have a lesson observation too from the tutors. Also you get to meet some other awesome colleagues. I had a great little team whom I worked with including @piximaths.bsky.social!

Fascinating that multiple choice papers for A Level Maths were existence from June 1978 (almost 50 years ago) and it being running right up to January 1993 before it stopped. Find out more about its usefulness for our current A Level Maths / Further Maths syllabus in my talk on #Mathsconf41

Hopefully! I raised a ticket and immediately, they don't believe me! Just because the email address was changed to something I haven't heard of. I've got the email that says about the change so surely that's enough evidence to believe that I was the original owner and not some hacker?

I was doing the sequencing last year for my school. Plan with Further Maths in mind and work "backwards" to then help with planning for Maths. It worked so much better with my Further Maths students this year. One tip is to really know the prior knowledge that is required for Maths to then do FM

Absolutely not! It's something that the participants from the various A Level pedagogy workgroups that I have led from the past few years have been crying out for. I really hope that this will also encourage more teachers to join these local workgroups from all across the country.

Indeed - some might say it's very radical. But we won't shy away for doing what is best for our students. It also encourages me and my Further Maths colleague to continue to develop professionally and become all rounders in teaching across all of #ALevelMaths

And we also get Y12/13 students to pop into Maths lessons - some go to Set 1 groups, and sow seeds to the top end too. Transition is just one of many things to then engage more pupils to do A Level Maths, and hopefully stick with us! 12/12
