Integrating local habitat structure and landscape heterogeneity is essential to conserve multitaxonomic biodiversity in European primary forests
Our results demonstrate that the drivers of primary forest biodiversity are largely context-dependent; therefore, conservation strategies based on single biodiversity indicators or individual structu...

Have you ever tried to read a scientific journal article and been told “you don’t have access, pay to download this article?” Did you know that the author of that article gets $0 if you pay? Instead, you can email the author and ask for a free copy! I’d be delighted to help and answer questions!

40 years of natural colonisation or passive rewilding, far from woodland seed sources. No forest trees yet, but a mosaic of shrubland, grassland & spontaneous wetland pools, very biodiverse among intensive arable & urbanisation. Great Crested Newts & Marsh Harriers. Linnets galore.

People and large mammals are known to coppice hazel etc, but they're not essential to the process. Hazel can self-coppice in 2 ways: first, the big old stems simply fall over, and new growth emerges to replace them. 1/2
