Posted this at the other place but share and share alike. David Whitaker, first story editor of Doctor Who, telling the Screenwriter Quarterly (journal of what’s now the Writers’ Guild) in autumn 1963 about something good he’d just read.

Recently I commissioned Terry Nation to write a serial from an excellent storyline he’d submitted on request, and later he brought in what has turned out to be the best scene-by-scene breakdown I’ve ever read. As I sat in my office and studied the pages, the characters grew in front of my eyes, the situations opened up like flowers in the sun and the total effect was a riot of colourful imagination. … I would like to offer my praise and thanks to him, as any script editor would, for making my job so much easier on the one hand, and on the other for the opportunity to see a writer blending his talent, industry and technique in such an excellent way.”
