Oh I was able to dig up a wedding photo!
Yzma and Kronk from The Emperor’s New Groove. They are both smiling. They are in love. It is likely but unverifiably the day of their wedding.

I’m glad to hear that! Unfortunately he’s (probably?) satirizing a real person!
Sam Altman being a fucking lunatic

You can try Mark Masters. +1 (651) 587-5130. I had a broken window frame and he installed an entirely new window, frame and all. This picture is much later when someone broke the glass but all the frame work was him and I was really happy with the job he did.

I have severely underestimated the commitment of reading China Mieville’s latest 😅
The cover of China Mieville’s The Rouse, which is grey with bare trees visible and nothing else. The Rouse is like 1200 pages and is about 2 inches thick.

I’m currently reading @alixeharrow.bsky.social ‘s The Everlasting and it is so wonderful to have a cowardly, nervous wreck of a main character to follow around, he immediately feels authentic and relatable
The Everlasting, by Alix E Harrow. The cover features a medieval sword surrounded by flourishing petals and flowers

A jeep near me has this presumably unofficial jeep decal and I find it so absurdly offensive every time I see it, hawking the jeep brand through tragedy
The jeep logo of two headlights and vertical black bars of the jeep grill. Only now for some reason 2 of the middle bars are taller and in the shape of the twin towers. Underneath it says “never forget 09-11-2001”

The best thing about MapQuest is you can make your icon a mage or a unicorn instead of a boring blue dot

“Guys, I know a guy who would be great. His only tattoo isn’t finished but it’s just a maze!”
The actor Matt Walsh on the TV show Community. He’s shirtless and he has a swastika tattoo that he says is going to be a maze but in actuality the character is a white supremacist neonazi

Last night I finished Dolly Alderton’s Good Material and it was just delightful. Already a lovely read but then the last quarter hooked me in and I stayed up too late finishing it! #📚💙

Just discovered that Seth McEvoy’s Not Quite Human series is available on archive.org! Very excited to dive back into these books.
The cover of Not Quite Human #1, Batteries Not Included. A scientist father is holding wires connected to a boy whose chest is open exposing his circuitry within. The man’s daughter is standing there and appears to be getting zapped as her hand is glowing with electric energy.

Now I want the same version of this game that can pit 82-0 teams against one another.
82-0 with James Harden, Kevin Durant, Giannis, Tim Duncan, and Wilt

Just finished @nicholsonbaker.bsky.social’s The Mezzanine, a funny and intimate look at the mundane day to day of our lives, immediately relatable in revealing our universal quirks, although I don’t remember ever stabbing a childhood friend over crayons 😂 #📚💙
A footnote from the book that reads:
At that age I once stabbed my best friend, Fred, with a pair of pinking shears in the base of the neck, enraged because he had been given the comprehensive sixty-four-crayon Crayola box—including the gold and silver cray-ons-and would not let me look closely at the box to see how Crayola had stabilized the built-in crayon sharpener under the tiers of crayons. Over the next week and a half, Fred, very aloof, worked his way through every size and style of Band-Aid that Johnson & Johnson made (his family, rich, could afford the comprehensive variety box, which included shapes that no longer exist, to my know-ledge), refusing to show me the (very minor) wound, stringing out my guilt and curiosity by wearing the smallest Band-Aid, a tiny flesh-colored fried egg three-eighths of an inch across, long after I was sure he had only a faint white asterisk of a scar underneath.

Just found out the Not Quite Human books are out of print. What kind of future is this?!
The book cover for Not Quite Human books 4, Reckless Robot. It features a blond haired boy staring into the distance. His shirt is torn and his chest reveals an electronic panel smoking and sparking. A girl is grasping his arm and staring at him in alarm. It looks fucking rad!

I think this finding is key and will be the difference-maker as AI becomes more and more unavoidable in our society (willingly or not). Especially for those who are trying to learn! Otherwise it just completely destroys that dopamine hit we’re supposed to get when we do something right.
One bright spot: how participants used AI appeared to make a difference for individual outcomes, according to the research. Those who self-reported that they essentially prompted the chatbot to cough up the answers unsurprisingly had a worse time once the AI rug was pulled. Participants who instead said that they asked the chatbot for hints or clarification — as opposed to outright cheating — appeared to be better off sans AI assistance.

Glamour shots!
Two loaves of (probably) perfectly baked Easter bread. They are a delicious golden brown color that immediately causes the viewer to salivate with desire. @rincewind.run Holy shit Micah this might be the funniest footnote I’ve ever seen. A true “Goddamn it, Terry!”
From Terry Pratchett’s Sourcery: “Many people who had gotten to know Rincewind had come to treat him as a sort of two-legged miner’s canary*”

Reading Thomas E. Ricks’ Waging a Good War and I think I need more Dems to digest this. Statements mean little when the actions of politicians frequently fail to meet the moment or acknowledge the conflict we’re currently engaged in.
A page from Thomas E. Ricks’ Waging a Good War. The highlighted text reads: “In doing so he was following a basic rule of insurgency or counterinsurgency: in a war in which the people are the prize, every action should have meaning and send a signal. If it doesn't do that, then carrying it out should be recon-sidered. All operations send a message, inadvertently or not. The more political the conflict, the more important it is to keep that in mind.”

I’m about 70% of the way through it but @drewmagary.bsky.social’s The Hike is currently on sale wherever ebooks are sold and it is very good and uncomfortable! There’s also a crab!
The cover of The Hike by Drew Magary. It features those words in large letters and in the middle is a blue crab. I don’t know if the species of crab is specifically a blue crab, only that the color of the crab is blue.
