Why $15.50 when the same game is $20 on Steam? Because @itch.io takes a smaller share of the revenue, and we wanted to pass those savings on to the wonderful itchio users. We make about the same per unit!

What are the fundamental reasons for consoles to exist? (beyond: it's an established market $$$) Slightly specialized hardware? Different form-factors and interfaces? Safe, curated experiences? I like what the Playdate is doing with an idiosyncratic hardware and a new subscription model.

It got me thinking what an ideal console would look like... Upgradeable, retrocompatible, fixable, open source, ethically & sustainably made, useful beyond gaming, without gatekeepers and walled gardens, with an open ecosystem, no artificially scarce exclusives... would it basically be a better PC?

In 1993’s Cannon Fodder, your soldiers weren’t merely nameless units to be spent on the battlefield. Rather, each one had a name, a rank, and, if they were lost in action, their deaths were later marked on a gravestone on a hill.

Unless code is qualitatively different from the rest of culture and LLMs are just creating a new layer of abstraction and push these programming languages down in the black box along with assembly & binary and the whole point of computer science is to create a universal natural language interpreter.

Italians seem to love gen-AI images. The most beautiful towns are infested with them. Everywhere you look there's some Lovecraftian menu or slop postcard. Admittedly we kind of invented that aesthetic, so maybe it's a form of reclamation?

Mapping the Southern Labor Movement, by Labor South and Meg Lemieur! justseeds.org/product/mapp...
This Mapping the Southern Labor Movement poster and zine was created by Labor South: Center for Working Class Studies (www.laborsouth.org) in collaboration with artist Meg Lemieur (https://www.meglemieur.com). Meg carries on the tradition of many activist artists who create collaborative educational and organizing tools as a part of the Beehive Design Collective. To develop this piece, Labor South embarked on a seven-month participatory creative process to learn key Southern labor stories, develop symbolic flora and anthropomorphized fauna to depict the events, and share the work in progress with our larger community at several virtual community updates. We drew from many sources to create our illustration - through conversations, historical archives, and deep reading of texts.

The history of US Southern labor movements has not been taught in schools and is usually unknown, even to those who call the South home. Here we depict five key events that paved the way for subsequent worker organizing in the South: the formation of the Southern Tenant Farmers Union, which started in Arkansas in the 1930s; the Textile Strike of 1934 which spread throughout the Piedmont region of the US South; the formation of the National Domestic Workers Union of America in the 1950s and 1960s in Georgia; the Memphis Sanitation Workers’ Strike in 1968 in Tennessee; and the Justice@Smithfield Campaign in the early 2000s in Eastern North Carolina. This illustration reminds us that workers should be commemorated for their history-making efforts to address economic injustice.

The poster was printed at the original green printer and union shop Barefoot Press, Raleigh, NC, 2026.DetailDetail
