There’s a super little onsite museum where amongst other great finds from the site you can see the Corbridge Hoard; a collection of personal possessions, weapons, and ‘lorica segmentata’ armour buried by a Roman soldier nearly 2000 years ago!

My photo shows an upright metal stand with the fragmentary and corroded remains of ‘lorica segmentata’ plate armour on the right, and on the left of the stand is a reconstruction of how it would have looked when new. It is a type of segmented, armadillo-like’ upper body armour known as a cuirasse, which was worn by Roman legionaries. Parts of at least six cuirasses were found in the wooden chest of the Corbridge Hoard
