Sorry, but there is zero evidence this is true. The RFP could have easily excluded Bloor through the Annex or those multi-lane segments of University. The mayor served up a win-win on a silver platter and dude rejected it.

Doug Ford’s government rejected Toronto’s proposals to restore traffic lanes and keep bike lanes: sources

One thing about people citing slower car travel times on Bloor West following the bike lane install is, well, that was kind of the point. Drivers were **averaging** nearly 20 km/h over the current speed limit at spots. Road revamp has brought speeds closer to limit. www.toronto.ca/wp-content/u...
Two bar charts comparing average and 95th percentile vehicle speeds in km/h across five Toronto locations over three time periods (2021/23, 2024, 2025/26), with a posted speed limit of 40 km/h indicated by a dotted line.

There are 2 main threads to the Doug Ford regime which seem different but actually converge: 1 Reward cronies/donors. 2 Make speeding dangerously without fear of punishment great again There is a lot of overlap between 1 & 2. Ford cronies/donors love speeding dangerously without fear of punishment

Total mystery. More Torontonians killed by automobile collisions than gun violence, but sure, let's keep pretending it's someone experiencing homelessness and sleeping on subway that's making things unsafe.

Traffic flow in dense urban context is largely constrained by intersection capacity, not the number of vehicle travel lanes. (And turn lanes were prioritised by the city when installing bike lanes.) Instead the premier should have mandated that Toronto limit left turns on major arterial roads.

Yesterday the cafe I work at packed up its CafeTO patio. Immediately, someone parked where the patio used to be and the spot was basically occupied all day m. It made me think of the bike lane removal thing. All those “freed up” lanes will just be parking. It won’t ease car congestion at all.

I think that a good rule of thumb for political advocacy is that you should spend more time criticizing politicians than you do criticizing other advocates, both those who are aligned with you and those who aren't.

Seeing some out here on a day when Premiers are being terrible who claim that they don't support the Premiers BUT something about advocates' approach annoys them. A reminder that, if you don't support a political decision, you can spend some time criticizing the politicians who actually made it.

"Ripping out these protected bike lanes against the will of Toronto city council is a colossal waste of $48 million. The province’s own experts know it will not ease traffic congestion, it will put people’s lives at risk…” One of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen any politician do to any city.

IMO @tomflood.bsky.social 's directness is effective at rallying the base. Maybe you aren't the audience? Which is ok! But advocates don't speak with one voice. FWIW @cycletoronto.bsky.social has been trying to appeal to "normies" for 2+ years now (while also in the courts). And yet here we are.
