Agreed. Its a really obnoxious thing with marketing these days, I’m thinking especially of book marketing, where you need the elevator pitch: “My [project] is [piece of media] meets [piece of media].” Marketing wants built in audiences and nostalgic investment because, as always: capitalism.

There is no ethical consumption of HBO’s Harry Potter series

Character layout of Toph lying on her side propping her head up with an arm, Zuko with his arms crossed and Sokka looking smug in the foreground

The Trump administration hates academic science funding, full stop. They hate where that money goes, and they hate who it goes to. They want to keep all that money for themselves, to hand out to favored cronies who can help them get elected and to steer yet more money and more power back into their hands.

That’s it. That’s the story

A screenshot of a tumblr post.

From user radiqueer:
Human relationships are not transactional but they are reciprocal, which I think many of you with your ‘i don’t owe anyone anything’ shtick are too happy to forget.

From user aromanticduck:
Transactional: everything has to be exactly 50/50 all the time, pay me back for the £5 sandwich or buy me something worth exactly £5, I refuse to make an effort for you if there’s nothing in it for me

Reciprocal: you were there for me when I needed help, and I’m going to do the same for you, it doesn’t matter if one of us needs more or is capable of less, because the point is not equivalent exchange but mutual care

No frog left straight.

Have you heard anything from Alex Jones since launching the parody?

Not from Alex, but his son Rex (don’t worry, he’s like 30) said “It’s yours now” on social media, while complaining that we made a bad business decision. He’s right about the first thing and couldn’t be more wrong about the second thing. Gotta give him credit: being 50-percent correct on anything is a huge improvement for the Jones empire.

What do you envision true success looking like for The Onion’s takeover of InfoWars?

Total world domination. No frog left straight.

Blaming decline in support for LGBTQ existence on use the word “queer” rather then, oh, I dunno, a well-documented, concerted and broad-based Christian Nationalist movement emboldened to remake all aspects of society seems .. misplaced.

“Subsuming the fixed reality of gayness under the much more malleable banner of queerness undermines a core premise behind gay rights: that sexual orientation isn’t chosen. And polling suggests that premise is, indeed, being weakened; the share of Americans who believe people are born gay has declined over the past decade”
