Biggest pet peeve is when someone does not fucking communicate their issues with you and instead chooses to ignore you or remain silent. The problems will not magically resolve this way. Talk, figure out where the miscommunication is, allow apologies or whatever. Just talk.

As modes of locomotion, "scurry", "skitter", "scutter" and "scuttle" all describe essentially identical activities, but they connote very different things about the creature so acting. I cannot articulate what that difference is, but I'll know at a glance whether a writer has picked the wrong one.

If you think an artist's style looks like AI but you can scroll back through their portfolio and see them doing the same work before 2020, congrats, you're not looking at an AI grifter. You're looking at one of the original victims whose entire style AI stole.

This goes for authors as well. If you're reading a book and it includes things like em-dashes or the rule of three, consider that the author's work was stolen to train AI...and/or they learned to write when punctuation and literary devices were considered good things!

Alt text is not the same as a photo caption. Captions are typically written to support a photo, and usually depend on users being able to see the photo. But alt text is meant to be the stand-in for the photo. The alt text is what a screen reader user gets in place of the photo.

the only non-negotiable for writing is you have to read. doesn't matter if you're writing comics, prose, screenplays. read. read books, articles, scripts, comics. fiction and non-fiction. read lots of 'em and never stop reading.

this is what certain elements i will not rename sound like

joke essay by author Morgan Facilitates

Why I'm Good, You're bad, And You Need To Do Better
I shouldn't have to explain what happened. The fact you're asking is how I know.
I'm going to say something that a lot of people need to hear, and that almost nobody is brave enough to say with the care and precision it deserves: I'm good, you're bad, andnyou need to do better. I say this with tremendous compassion for everyone willing to accept it without making me explain why.
Me good. You bad. Bad is bad. I'm good cause I'm me and me is good. Some of you will want a footnote for this, but I have already done the work of making it accessible.
Yesterday, a person in a shared space said something. Several people saw it. I will not reproduce the words, because repeating harm is harm, and I will not describe the shared space, because that would center the location over the impact. What matters is the larger pattern, which you can recognize without particulars if you have been paying attention. I recognized it immediately. This is one of the differences between us.
Someone in the replies asked what was said. Errrmmmm, *checks notes*, you need me to hand you a transcript before you'll consider the possibility that a thing was bad? That's a very telling standard of evidence to have in the year we are currently living in. I am exhausted by the expectation that I provide an example every time I make an accusation. If the example is what makes you care, you have already told me everything I need to know about you.

No, SungWon is absolutely correct here. The insistence on sticking with the Japanese title when there is already a perfectly acceptable English one is utterly asinine. Nobody does this in Japanese literature, or film, or any other art form. It's just the anime nerds who insist on being obtuse.

i should clarify, when i write people doing bad things, it's because i am bad. they are me. more importantly, when you read about those bad things, they also become you. that's how story works. in fact, you are going to think about murder before this skeet ends. how's that feel, sicko.

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward
