People like Flora are uncomfortable with conflict. That's fucking it. They see someone being angry at someone they like, and the anger of victims makes people uncomfortable, so because they don't like it, they conclude it must be "too far" and step in like good little peacemakers to calm things down

I would love it if we could spare even an ounce of this concern for the victims who have been forced out of game spaces for speaking up. I have never once seen a writer try to reconcile how we've forced people out through gossip, ridicule and lack of compassion

Confidently navigating life with the assumption that your prior harms will not bar you from future opportunities is a distinctly white male priviledge. As a black person in the US whose community is inspected for criminality, seeing the selective use of restorative justice is very jarring.

Restorative and rehabilitative justice are not simply magic words you can throw to absolve accountability or resolve wrongdoing. It is a process and it is not becoming of anyone who truly wants these things to tolerate when people use it as a non-sequitur to deny and invalidate righteous concern.

No patience for mealy-mouthed cowards who make it sound like its not people's business that someone got away with sex crimes and that nobody in their orbit has a right to know or that it's irrelevant to their work or their communities they build. At the center, there is a precedent for harm.

i actually dont think abusers are skilled at getting into spaces. people are very permissive and have a hard time pushing back on weird behavior if it means rocking the boat and looking like youre going against the grain.

there is a generation of current college students who didn’t realize that #MeToo didn’t end rape culture, in part because the adults around them ridiculed it for going “too far”; the generation in between was silenced and punished, while the schools let student turnover free them from accountability

It's weird, I don't think I've ever seen a small food business go under because they provide actual photos of the food, even if it's badly photographed. I've even ordered from places that don't have any pictures, it's not hard to get a light box instead of paying AI to make a false representation
