Apple announced two always-listening features for Apple Watch: - Siri Recap summarizes conversations you had throughout the day. - Live Rewind shows a transcript of the previous 15 seconds of conversation. Quite a shift for a company that has made privacy a core part of its brand.

Been busy with AI. I get the hate, too much wastefulness, pushing it where it shouldn’t, but at the same time there are specific applications where it’s very useful. Interesting times we live in

Bordeaux, France, has now recorded more days above 40°C in 2026 alone than during the entire 105-year period from 1920 (when observations began) to 2025. This is deeply shocking.

The events in Ceuta are obviously dramatic and require rapid action, but politicians in other countries collecting points is disgusting. For example Denmark suggesting Schengen closures, what do they think, that 10000 people are going to hop on a plane to Copenhagen? Help Spain, don’t be a populist

I used to do some work on the ethical use of satellite and drone imagery for aid and disaster response, and it is genuinely hard to express in words what a dangerous, stupid thing Google is doing by making it easy to use GenAI to create faked satellite imagery:

How to plant a nuclear plant in Iran
The question is: what on earth is Google doing?

Manosphere grifters have figured out that some men are easily manipulated by making them feel insecure about their masculinity. The GOP has turned this sales pitch into both an ideology and a campaign strategy. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
Any man who goes online today is apt to come across content telling him that he will never find a partner who will earn him the respect of other men if he lacks money and connections, if he is not bodybuilder-fit with a full head of hair, if he is not more than six feet tall. Online influencers who push this narrative have products to sell. They want you to buy their workout apps, their advice sessions, their investment plans. That’s just how a lot of advertising works: It makes you insecure so you’ll pay for a product in hopes of temporarily silencing your gnawing sense of inadequacy.Just as the manosphere and its galaxy of hucksters want you to fork over your cash so you can feel better about yourself as a man, Republicans want to make you feel insecure about your masculinity so that you vote Republican. Masculinity, in this sense, is a lifestyle product: one that comes with a set of political beliefs predicated on the subjugation of women, minority groups, and anyone else who men are told are their inferiors.

I’m not a military guy, but this metric that Russian authorities use is hilariously similar to a classic business challenge: they measure output, not outcome. Is the air defense effort good enough that the damage is manageable? They won’t say, they just list what they claim to have done 😂

Apple has had to raise iPhone prices because of rising costs of memory chips given competing demand from AI data centers. Apple wants to start buying chips from Chinese chip companies but this will collapse the revenue & stock of companies like Micron who’ve been price gouging on memory chips.

I find it hilarious that tech CEOs are simultaneously claiming that employees cannot be trusted to work from home and must take Zoom calls from the office but can be trusted to work without supervision or guidance from middle managers.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the role of management and ICs/workers particularly in tech, but also all white collar fields as AI comes everywhere. It’s an interesting transformation of work, but I see the same patterns as with previous automation: low impact roles are under threat 1/2

Reminds me of people buying toilet paper at the beginning of Covid: need to do something, have no idea what. Retail is a low margin industry and shoplifting needs to be compensated for somehow. The public isn’t too sympathetic on making their life harder. Better to ask where the big impact lies

So @dieworkwear.bsky.social has often mentioned how much and why quality clothing costs and how the reason for manufacturing going to low labor cost countries is because people expect to pay very little. Now we get an interesting social experiment 1/n

The thing I wonder is that if Ukraine would have had nukes, would they have been used? Or would it be reasonable to expect that existence alone would have deterred Russia. For the latter to be true, there would have needed to be a real belief in MAD. The former question is much harder

In Belgium, employees receive compensation for every kilometre they ride, with some cyclists earning up to €810 per year. And why not? Biking saves public money for everyone. “All employees in Belgium who cycle to work are entitled to a bicycle allowance of €0.28 per kilometre of their commute.”

One in five people in Flanders commuted by bike and received compensation last year, but this figure is significantly lower in Brussels and Wallonia.

If Trump would stop selling weapons to Ukraine it would lead to a messy situation trying to scramble for replacements. But it could backfire big if replacements are found and American defense contracts would take a permanent hit due to loss of trust and competitive alternatives

Going through the second big fossil fuel crisis of the decade and North America experiencing exceptional heat waves due to climate change. Maybe, just maybe it would be smart to significantly reduce the use of fossil fuels and move largely to renewables
