The utter, utter stupidity … Cratering our higher education sector, with regional areas hit hardest, to pander to One Nation immigration politics. They pegged uni finances on intl students, and then started attacking the student visa intake.

As someone who (vaguely) remembers when Malcolm Fraser was PM, the fact it is nearly twenty years since Kevin '07 is all a bit much. I remember exactly where I was when someone told me Howard had lost his seat.

The Guardian gave Armie Hammer's new film Citizen Vigilante 1* due to deeply problematic depictions of migrants, immigration and European politics; then Variety says it "found an unlikely high-profile supporter in Elon Musk." Unlikely? Have you been paying attention? Musk would be my first guess.

Reading about early 20thC film star George Arliss who played historical figures incl. Voltaire, Disraeli, and the Duke of Wellington. His contract with Gaumont-British gave him "story approval, cast approval, director approval, [and] a limited working day with an inflexible 3.45pm interval for tea."
Black and white portrait photograph of a thin man with a serious expression, wearing a monocle in his right eye. The photograph is signed and dated (1919) in the top right corner.

Students, I like semi-colons. I like em-dashes. I like all sorts of punctuation. But if you're going to use 'fancy' punctuation in assignments, learn how to use it properly. Otherwise, just stick to commas* and full-stops. *Make sure you learn a few things about using commas too.

Excerpts from Verhoeven et al., Ch 12 (“Reproducibility & Contestation in Humanities Digital Infrastructure”) in _Critical Infrastructure Studies & Digital Humanities_ dhdebates.gc.cuny.edu/read/critica... @bestqualitycrab.bsky.social @mikejonesphd.bsky.social @uminnpress.bsky.social
Three excerpts from Deb Verhoeven, Mike Jones, Toby Burrows, and Ann Borda’s Chap. 12 (“Reproducibility and Contestation in Humanities Digital Infrastructure”) in _Critical Infrastructure Studies and Digital Humanities_ (pp. 243, 244-45, 245 in print ed.):

Contestability and contestation are among the underlying precepts of humanities research that help distinguish it from other disciplines that find evidence in processes of consensus….

In the first part of this chapter, we address the way in which contestability has been minimized in favor of infrastructure focused on reproducibility and consensus…. We argue that rather than focusing on efficiency and replication, humanities digital infrastructure should include support for additive and annotative contestation as a foundational concept….

The remainder of this chapter looks at two examples of humanities driven digital infrastructure that foster this approach to contestation in different ways. The Humanities Networked Infrastructure (HuNI) platform emphasizes the potential of digital infrastructure to encapsulate collaborative, relational meaning-making; and the digital heritage access platform Mukurtu provides a framework supporting different, sometimes contradictory knowledge systems (especially Indigenous community knowledge).
