My wife was surprised to learn I had had the mumps as a kid. She wanted to know why I hadn’t had the MMR. I just looked it up, the MMR was introduced to the USA in 1971 but the UK didn’t get it until 1988. WTF??? That’s worse than when we used to get movies in England a few months after their US run

Believe me, I wish this were true, but that's what it is, wishful thinking. Freddie Mercury was never open about his sexuality* or his ethnicity. To me that makes the image political, but more in the sad "reflection of its time" kind of way. However there's another important aspect to this photo...

Somebody claiming Queen playing Live Aid was an apolitical thing, with someone else clapping back saying it's an image of a queer Indian man playing at a charity event, which makes the photo political. All those things are true, Freddie Mercury was gay and he was Indian, and Live Aid was a charity concert, but none of it was quite as straightforward as that.

Okay so @defector.com has had an odd glitch since the site redesign a couple of weeks back where the wrong photo and headline are often put together on the main page and I was going to ask them about fixing it but this just happened and as far as I'm concerned they have to leave it as is.

Got a couple (good-natured I think!) comments recently about pivoting to making comics for younger readers “for the money”. I do agree that writing for kids can be a little more economically viable but I think that’s to do with it still having somewhat healthier relationships to outside institutions

It irritates my wife when I say I think 9/11 led to us getting married, but facts are on my side. I think the trauma of the event put me in a headspace where I was much more open to starting a relationship and settling down. We met in Feb 2002 and were engaged by October. Take that, terrorists!
