Two Sunday evenings of mesmerising viewing on RTÉ, thanks to @irishrainforest.bsky.social and his teaching on #nature. If you didn't see both episodes, then be sure to catch them on the player and enjoy the incredible scenes. www.rte.ie/player/serie...

Great watching the history of the bogs & Midlands, but extremely disappointing to see RTE not covering facts of what BNM are doing to these bogs to facilitate wind. Important that the public is given all info, not misinformation on #buildingireland www.rte.ie/player/serie...

At the same time, both Eamon Ryan & Malcolm Noonan, and now Roderic, all looked the other way when it came to protecting areas that were to power data centres, such as bogs with ground nesting red listed species of conservation. The GP turned a blind eye to the destruction of dewatering bogs.

Shocking to hear Christopher O'Sullivan speak in such a manner when he seen with his own eyes what's happening on bogs here by BNM. Darragh O'Brien continues to ignore our invitation to visit and see real evidence that contradicts what he says. #biodiversityloss clearly being supported.

On #biodiversityday2026 don't ever be afraid to ask questions or dig deeper. By doing so, you will uncover scenes like this, of Whooper habitat losses on bogs by a semi-state to facilitate a proposed wind farm. When Green Vs Green! #biodiversityloss madness.

Any difference in those ducks and the ones on the bogs here that were raised with you before Ciaran that apparently are fine to have their habitats destroyed? Not much in terms of nature restoration laws being applied here.

Yet another opportunity lost for the Midlands. The bogs here are prime for it under the Just Transition. When will communities be allowed to deliver instead of being ignored?

You know what walking on a bog should sound like but that's not what could be heard underfoot at Slieve Beagh following a wildfire last week. Ella McSweeney joined Philip Boucher Hayes to talk more.

Unfortunately not even a clear path for delivery Pádraic.Christopher walked the bogs here, seen the biodiversity treasures they hold, yet has delivered nothing to protect them.2 days ago his party colleague D.O'Brien was patting BNM on the back for industrialising a bog for data centres. Such a mess.

The Government needs to listen and work with communities. Local knowledge is crucial and delivery is best achieved through proper process, not box ticking.

Given what BNM are doing to bogs to facilitate wind John, an immediate halt should be placed on all plans. When red listed species are directly impacted to facilitate wind, then as a Country, we have a serious problem with biodiversity loss being ignored. Reality of the "hidden heartlands".

Disgraceful from Darragh O'Brien over on X and a clear example of ignoring & avoiding communication with local communities. For a Minister to publicly display support for projects that are knowingly impacting on critically important ecosystems and biodiversity overall, is extremely worrying.

Mid Shannon wilderness Park - Awareness Group @midshannon.bsky.social · 20/02/2026
The Minister knows only too well about the importance of biodiversity on bogs here and what's happening to them but has chosen to let the carnage continue. Ecosystem & environmental degradation of over 5,000 acres of bogs seemingly doesn't matter. Start here and begin making a difference.

Following heavy rains this week, farmers downstream of the bogs are paying the price. Pumping of water off bogs continues and modified drainage having taken place to facilitate, with underground concrete pipes removed and a new open channel created feeding into this river.

When the elements that continue to contribute to climate disruption are consistently ignored by those who have the power to make the difference to begin the repair process, then you may as well be trying to apply a bandaid to a catastrophic wound that'll never close to heal.

You had no issues with wetlands being pumped when raised with you previously Ciaran, resulting in habitat losses of nesting red listed species of conservation. You seemingly didn't appreciate wetlands then.

One very simple step, at least here anyway, stop pumping out bogs resulting in flooding downstream lands. Leave the bogs to nature and implement natural, not forced, outfalls off the bogs.

GHG emissions from dewatering bogs to facilitate wind energy does not feature in this report. Such throws the credibility of the whole report into question.

@fiannafailparty.bsky.social & FG, have signed the death knell of biodiversity on bogs. Renewable energy generation for data centres is the plan all along for wind farms on bogs with the joint BNM/AWS partnership the prime example. www.newstalk.com/news/data-ce...

Data centres will only get planning permission if they include details of how they will generate their own renewable energy.

He also continues to support the desecration of habitats by a semi-state on bogs relating to ground nesting red listed species of conservation. A fact that was brought to his attention. His nature Minister walked these bogs and is now also looking the other way. Disgraceful reality.
