Northern Ireland is one of the most nature depleted places on the planet. We’ve no independent EPA and no legally binding nature targets. This must change. Alert your MLA: action.rspb.org.uk/page/188327/...

Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK without an independent Environmental Protection Agency. We also don’t have legally binding Nature Targets. Nature needs accountability. Email your MLA today: action.rspb.org.uk/page/188327/...

The failure of the Executive to agree proposals for an independent EPA is deeply concerning. NI is the only part of the UK or Ireland without one, despite years of expert recommendations. At a time of biodiversity loss and environmental crisis, strong, independent oversight is urgently needed.

“She’s lost count.” “Good. Wait for her to start again… then everyone hop.” “She’s panicking.” “Perfect.” #BigGardenBirdwatch
Four glossy Starlings crowd around a shallow terracotta birdbath in a garden lawn, one splashing in the water while others hop around it. Above them is the dialogue:
“She’s lost count.”
“Good. Wait for her to start again… then everyone hop.”
“She’s panicking.”
“Perfect.”

At RSPB NI, we remain concerned about the current state of agri-environment policy in Northern Ireland and spoke to BBC NI about this. The withdrawal of the Environmental Farming Scheme (EFS) without a fully functioning replacement has left many farmers in limbo.

We’ve just delivered a message to Downing Street, backed by over 100,000 of you.‼️ Farmers, NGOs and the public are standing together to demand action. UK Government, this is a call you can't afford to ignore. Any cut now would be a disaster for farming and nature.
A group of campaigners from the RSPB and partner organisations stand in front of the Houses of Parliament, holding bold signs calling for support for nature-friendly farming. One sign reads “Nature can’t afford a pay cut!” while others say “Farm with nature” and “To grow food, we need nature.” Three people wear oversized bird head costumes, and at the centre, a young woman holds a box showing the petition total: 106,744 signatures. The mood is determined and urgent, highlighting public support for protecting nature’s farming budget.
