There’s no Trump without media help. I don’t think he even wins the nomination in 2016 without it. He didn’t really run a campaign or had any funding. The media did all the work for him for free.

And then ten years later, who knows? The Thing, Showgirls, Ishtar, Blade Runner… all flops, all panned by the critics, all held up among their directors’ best work now.

It’s kinda a gift to get legit bad movies from a major studio. Current mainstream filmmaking is “high floor, low ceiling” exemplified by superheroes. Takes no risks, leaves no impression. Bad movies begat MST3K and the ZAZ spoofs, bad movies are interesting

Seriously: Hate Digger all you want, but [pauses for flow of hate] movies like Digger are why we need studios. A world in which Digger doesn't get made one in which Sinners and One Battle also don't get made. You miss with Heaven's Gate and you still swung. You miss with Paw Patrol and you >

Do they have “Philip Marlowe, Private Eye” Powers Boothe was a great Marlowe and the show was decent, but HBO has totally disavowed it for some reason

Jury's still out, but this guy ditching all the pro-Palestinian rhetoric on the campaign trail leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I can respect someone fighting for their morals, but this just looks like cynicism. We aren't the GOP, nor the Tea Party. As always, be careful who you let in the tent

One question that no one thought to ask was whether Uncommitted's pursuit and challenging of the Biden/Harris administration was sincere, or was it just politics. Were they ultimately trying to establish themselves on the political scene on the backs of salient issue.

The first revelation in this piece is that the founder of Uncommitted is now running for office. What's his platform? Affordability. I don't blame Uncommitted for Kamala's loss or Biden dropping out, they were just one cut among a thousand.

The New York Times has a choice of whether to cover Trumpism as A) an amusing and colorful example of the oddity of American politics, or B) an existential threat to the future of everyone you know and love. Over and over, they choose A. They trivialize themselves.

We look to Brazil and South Korea as examples of democracies standing up to tyrants, but the fact is they’re 50/50 countries like the US. They could easily flip to the totalitarian side.

With more support could Heavy Seas or Union become a national player? Is that more in Maryland’s interest than to lure a foreign brewery that could just as easily decamp to New York or Chicago?

The Guiness Brewery’s closing for good. Now that we know the full arc of this story I can’t help but wonder what would have happened if we told them to pound sand and instead gave local breweries the tax dollars we spent luring them to Maryland

I dunno… maybe we should do more things by referendum rather than just party. People are more wed to their parties than their policies, and if it becomes a “the politician has to enact the policy that won in referendum” then maybe things change
